What's New in the Wiki

23rd April 2005

  1. Quite a bit of activity has been going on in the background. The wiki was moved over to a new server which is hopefully more reliable.
  2. Lots of little background fixes have been made. Quite extensive performance enhancements were made to the backend (database optimisation and a conditional cache implemented).
  3. WikiThemesMooseCSS has a page detailing all the new themes the wiki supports.
  4. Content is currently being updated for Opera 8. This is an ongoing process...

9th February 2005

  1. As is probably clear, the default Style has been changed. MooseCSS has come up gold with a lovely new design for the wiki. Colour sets will hopefully be available soon. Unregistered users who want the old default - if you register you can choose which style you want to see...
  2. Though this went live last week, all text on wiki pages is finally marked up properly (before there would be no paragraphs). Some residual bugs will be noticable from this (drastic) change.

20th January 2005

  1. Yesterday, I added the rel="nofollow" attribute to external links in the wiki, which is the third deterrent to stop spammers (google redirection and robot meta directives being the other two). To stop this affecting friendly sites, I first check that external links are not on an approved list of domains. This allow "friends" to benefit from links on the wiki while unknown sites get no Google juice. Please email if you want to be added to this list.
  2. Added a history page handler, check the advanced tab to see it.
  3. Added a {{lastedit}} action to have a quick link to the last changes on a page (see it in action above).

16th January 2005

  1. Fixed external links failing due to changed google redirection URL. Also finally added robots/googlebot meta to stop archived pages being indexed as a further spam deterrant.
  2. Fixed DataURIs being broken by Google redirection - they are also now tagged by € after the link.
  3. Other minor fixes.

5th January 2005

  1. Fixed a bug that stopped old page revisions from being edited, and removed some small issues with previews.

Trimmed a bit. Don't worry, there's a backup in case the civilization gave way to onslaught from Mordor, and in further ages some archeologist looked up the post-glacial strata...

Which wiki software do you use? And what language is it written in? I'm impressed with the overall speed, and also with the aesthetics.

It is a modified WakkaWiki (heavy optimization of the database access by me), which runs on PHP 5 / MySQL. The aesthetics are courtesy of MooseCSS, who designed an advanced CSS design for an advanced browser! IE almost dies viewing it, and needs a whole series of fixes (in a conditional include to keep code clean) to make it readable; not surprising…

Oh, and if you register (which I prefer contributing authors do, though there is no forma requirement), you can choose from many WikiThemes to play with…
