1. October 2009 - Skin changes since the unite preview 1799

  1. Skin.ini, changed section:
    [Treeview Skin] (Padding Right = 0)

Note: the [Treeview skin] have now the new entry `Padding right = 0`. Before we had 2px right padding from the cloned [Edit skin]. The treeview skin includes scrollbars at the right if necessary, and this scrollbars can be at the right border of the monitor view in several cases - and there every px defined as padding right is not usable for the mouse. To cut a long story short: 0px is recommended here.

Note also: the temporarily deleted image `speeddial/overlay-window-noalpha.png` is back.

25. September 2009 - Skin changes since the unite preview 1792

  1. Skin.ini, section [Images], new entry:
    Checkmark.selected = checkbox/selected.png, 1
  2. Skin.ini, section [Images], changed entry:
    Checkmark = checkbox/unselected.png, 1

Note: the checkmark (checkbox in menus) uses the same png as the [Checkbox skin.selected]. For the normal section [Checkbox skin.selected] the default color scheme-colorize behaviour is 1 (unchangeable), but for the checkmark entry in [Images] the default is 0. The checkmark is loaded first (so colorize is 0) and an image is loaded only once, so the selected checkboxes in dialogs had no chance to appear colorized. The 1 in the above changes/additions enables now colorize too for the checkmarks - so all checkboxes/checkmarks everywhere are colorized now correctly.

Note also: since about build 1601 we have the possibility to change the opacity of the speeddial thumbnails - if the background image is enabled and chosen add the following to the speeddial.ini:

opacity = 50

Valid are values from 0 to 100, where 0 is no opacity, 1 is max. opacity and 100 means min. opacity (like 0). Note that the standard skins sd thumbnail backgrounds have already some opacity itselfs, so the value 0 or 100 displays the backgrounds with this `internal` opacity. But if you create non-transparent backgrounds, the value 0 or 100 displays your nontransparent things originally. The opacity have no effect if the backgrounds are defined with `Color =` entries.

And: the native skin have changed too.

Note that the new skin is still work in progress, so a lot of changes are perhaps only temporary. Below you find lists of new/changed/deleted sections and entries.

New are the Unite services (your Pc as web server). New is also the direct possibility to hide the main menu bar (menu `File`: checkbox `Show menu bar`). You reach then the entire menubar with the button at the left of the Tab bar (please do not disable the tab bar head in the appearance dialog!), see also `Main menu button without arrow` below the lists.

  1. There are two new skin folders `/unite` and `/widgets`, but some of the unite- and widget-related things you find also in other folders.
  2. Skin.ini, section [Options]: the entry `Inverted Pagebar Icons` have changed it`s value from 1 to 0; no longer necessary. Also all the inverted icons are deleted now.
  3. Skin.ini, new section: There is a new section [Generic] containing only the entry `Line padding = 2`. I`m not sure about where I can find the effect.
  4. Skin.ini: All the `Text shadow` entries in several sections are deleted now - but they are still possible. I recommend to forbear from the use of text shadows on push buttons; can have negative influence on web buttons.

A new skin! Below you find lists of new/changed/deleted sections and entries. New is also the possibility to draw text shadows.

  1. The skinfolder /dialog_page is deleted together with it`s content.
  2. Skin.ini, section [Options]: the entry `Pageclosebuttonontop = 1` is deleted, so the default value of `0` is valid.
  3. A new tool allows now to define the position and color for text shadows for toolbar and button sections. The syntax is as follows:
    Text Shadow = X Y
    Text Shadow Color = Z

    X is the horizontal difference in pixel to the right (negative values is to the left). Y is the vertical difference to the bottom (negative values is to the top). Z is a color in HEX as known from the common `Text color =` entries (eg `Shadow color = #FF0000` is red). Here an example:

    [Toolbar button skin]
    ...
    Text color = #000000
    ...
    Text shadow = 2 2
    Text shadow color = #FF0000

    The above example draws black text with the red shadow 2 px to the right and 2px to the bottom. Another example:

    Text shadow color = #FF0000

    The second example draws black text with the red shadow 2 px to the left and 2px to the top. `Text shadow = 0 0` have no effect. You cannot change the shadow-thickness. The shadow works with `Text bold = 1` (the shadow is then bold too), but there is no shadow for the underline if you set `Text underline = 1`)

8. Mai 2009 - Skin changes since the preview 1456

Some new or changed icons, changes for edit fields-attention, additions for the fallback behaviour in the standard-skin, new debug-mode for skins:

  1. The image `buttons/feed.png` have changed - no more round corners. Also the image `dialog_images\warning.png` have changed it`s appearance.
  2. Skin.ini, section [Images]: deleted entry `View hotlist = icons/tools.png` - that was an old one.
  3. Skin.ini, section [Images]: changed entry for the panels-button; changed from `Panels = icons/tools.png` to `Panels = icons/panel-toggle-open.png`. The new image panel-toggle-open.png replaces the old tools.png (icons/tools.png is deleted now).
  4. Skin.ini, section [Images]: additional entries for the panels-button; new are the entries `Panels Open = icons/panel-toggle-open.png` and `Panels Close = icons/panel-toggle-close.png`, referring to the new images. Seems to be unfinished; I never see the panel-toggle-close.png.

  11. General: Please note the new checkbox `Opera:config - User prefs - Debug skin`. If the new option is checked (and `Show tooltips` is activated too) you see the new skin-info tooltips on hovered buttons. Very good idea, even if sometimes I cannot see the skin-info if another tooltip is available (eg turbo button) - and sometimes the info box appears but without info...

Opera 10.00, 7. preview / alpha, 1456 [⊗]

24. April 2009 - Skin changes since the preview 1413

New subsections for different toolbar button areas, small changes in the pagebar background as well as in the turbo- and check_send-icons, deleted speeddial global... sections:

  1. Skin.ini: as expected we have now the new subsections .hover, .attention, .selected, .pressed, .mini, .hover.mini, .selected.mini and .pressed.mini as addition to the lately introduced [Mainbar Button Skin], [Personalbar Button Skin] and [Statusbar Button Skin]. All the new subsections are clones of the corresponding subsections from the [Toolbar button skin]. As mentioned in the changelog for 1413, the new sections/subsections provides separate areas around the icons on different toolbars. Note again that the new main sections have to correspond with the entries in the toolbar.ini - `Button skin=Mainbar Button Skin`, `Button skin=Personalbar Button Skin` and `Button skin=Statusbar Button Skin` - inside the relevant .style sections of the toolbar.ini. The [Link button skin] and it`s subsections (for the links on the personalbar) have still no effect - now the area around the personal links are set by the new [Personalbar Button Skin] and it`s subsections. Note also, that you can have separate icon areas for other toolbars too if you insert accordant entries into the toolbar.ini; I tried it with the Navigationbar and the Addressbar - worked like a charm.
  2. Skin.ini, section [Images]: the entry `Web Turbo Mode Disabled = icons/turbo_disabled.png,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0` have changed to `Web Turbo Mode Disabled = icons/turbo_disabled.png,0,0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0` (the image `icons/turbo_disabled.png` is now 24x19 px like the other turbo icons).
  3. Skin.ini: Deleted are the sections [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog Skin], [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog Page Skin] and [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog No Alpha Skin] - this was a short stand.
  4. Adapted is again the mail check/send icon (buttons/check_send.png); seems to be only a transparency-change.
  5. Adapted seems to be also the behaviour on .mini toolbars (eg `Statusbar skin`); the mini argument seems to work now again for buttons AND dropdown fields or other widgets.
  6. Another adaption concerns the pagebar background; the image backgrounds/pagebar.png is now darker and the size is now 10x100 Px (formerly 74x33 px).

3. April 2009 - Skin changes since the preview 1355

New sections for different toolbar button areas, additional sections for the speed dial configuration dialog, deleted sections, adaptions in the `Browser skin`, changed resize-knob for searchfields, new behaviour on mini toolbars, new mail icons, adapted check/send icon as well as adapted turbo icon/area:

  1. New are the sections [Mainbar Button Skin], [Personalbar Button Skin] and [Statusbar Button Skin]. They are currently clones of the `Toolbar button skin` and provides separate areas around the icons on toolbars. As it is now, you have to add .hover, .pressed and so on separately (eg [Mainbar Button Skin.hover]) in order to have really different areas around the icons. Please note that the new sections have to correspond with new entries in the toolbar.ini - `Button skin=Mainbar Button Skin`, `Button skin=Personalbar Button Skin` and `Button skin=Statusbar Button Skin` - inside the relevant .style sections of the toolbar.ini. Note also, that the [Link button skin] and it`s subsections (for the links on the personalbar) have currently no effect - now the area around the personal links are set by the new [Personalbar Button Skin] as mentioned. Finally we can have now different icon areas for different toolbars - not bad.
  2. New are also the sections [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog Skin], [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog Page Skin] and [Speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog No Alpha Skin] which are clones of the already existing `non Global` sections. I assume that the new sections are there for future use...
  3. Deleted are the sections [Dialog Wizard Header] and [Feature Setup Wizard Header Skin] - introduced in preview 1285.
  4. Adapted is the [Browser Skin]; there the entry `Tile Right = border/simple_border.png` is completely deleted - visible in the `Add contacts - General` dialog, the right border around the picture is lacking now. I don`t know the reason for this change - remember the [Web image browser skin] in this context (which is a clone of the [Browser skin]; if you add the deleted entry `Tile Right = border/simple_border.png` inside the [Web image browser skin] section, then the border is back without touching the Browser skin...).
  5. Changed is the resize-knob for searchfields; now you see a vertical dotted line instead of the `old` round knob (buttons/knob.png).
  6. New seems to be the behaviour on .mini toolbars (eg `Statusbar skin`); the mini argument seems to affect now only buttons, but no longer dropdown fields or other widgets. Seems to be something under construction...
  7. New compose html mail icons in the section [Images]; new are the entries `Mail Compose Left to right = html_compose/ltr.png` and `Mail Compose Right to left = html_compose/rtl.png` as well as the two png`s therefore.
  8. Adapted is the mail check/send icon; vertical arrows now instead of the old horizontal arrows (buttons/check_send.png).
  9. Adaptions also for the turbo icons; in the section [Images] the entry `Web Turbo Mode Disabled = icons/turbo_disabled.png,,4` have changed to `Web Turbo Mode Disabled = icons/turbo_disabled.png,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0` - this icon have changed also it`s size: from 16x16px to 24x20px (but `icons/turbo_enabled` is still 24x19px! why?)
  10. New are the entries `Web Turbo Mode Box Notify = icons/turbo_notification_box.png,,2,1,2,0,0,0,2,0,0` (blue area) and `Web Turbo Mode Box Auto = icons/turbo_auto_box.png,,2,1,2,0,0,0,2,0,0` (grey area) in [Images]; they seems to display the status of the new `Automatic turbo mode`, reachable in Tools - Preferences - Web pages - Opera turbo (also via the context menu of the turbo button).

13. March 2009 - Skin changes since the alpha 1345

Deleted link entries, new turbo entries/icons as well as a knob for the new resizable searchfield:

  1. New are the entries `Web Turbo Mode Enabled = icons/turbo_enabled.png,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0`, `Web Turbo Mode Box = icons/turbo_box.png,,2,1,2,0,0,0,2,0,0`, `Web Turbo Mode Disabled = icons/turbo_disabled.png,,4` and `Web Turbo Mode Info Icon = icons/unite_arrow.png` in the section [Images] for the corresponding new turbo icons and selected-background, most visible on the statusbar at the left. Note also the new turbo checkbox in Tools - Preferences - Web pages.
  2. New is the entry `Resize Knob = buttons/knob.png` in [Images] with the corresponding knob-icon for the new resizable searchfield, to see at the left of the searchfield in the address bar. The new searchfield is represented by the entry `Multiresizesearch` inside the toolbar.ini.
  3. Deleted are the entries Opera Account Enabled = account/enabled.png, Opera Account Disabled = account/disabled.png, Opera Account Failed = account/failed.png and Opera Account Busy = anims/reload.png in the section [Images] as well as the section [Account] and the skinfolder `account`- I assume that the entries/section/folder are only temporary deleted in this exceptional turbo edition.

10. March 2009 - Skin changes since the alpha 1285

Changed backgrounds for security buttons in the addressfield, a corrected spinner animation, changed and added link icons:

  1. Changed skin.ini sections [Low Security Button Skin] and [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin]; both defined now as `Type = Boxstretch` referring to the new images `trust_and_security_button/low_security.png` (grey) and `trust_and_security_button/untrusted_site.png` (red). Deleted are the 8 tiles for the previous definition as Boxtile.
  2. The new spinner-animation anims/reload.png replaces now the old anims/reload.gif, so the following entries in the section [Images] have changed from .gif to .png: `;Pagebar Document Loading Icon = anims/reload.png`, `Mail Accounts Busy = anims/reload.png`, `Thumbnail Reload Image = anims/reload.png`, `Opera Account Busy = anims/reload.png` and `Quick Find Busy = anims/reload.png`.
  3. Changed are the images for the icons Link failed = link/failed.png,,,,,,,,,,0, Link enabled = link/enabled.png,,,,,,,,,,0 and Link disabled = link/disabled.png,,,,,,,,,,0 in the section [Images].

12. February 2009 - Skin changes since the alpha 1229

Changed background for the tab bar at the left/right, as well as new possibilities for the extender menu button on the tab bar with new icons. Corrected `Cycler pages skin` and corrected call for the bookmarks menu button. New hover-color for the `Notifier skin`:

  1. Changed are the sections [Pagebar Skin.left] and [Pagebar Skin.right], formerly empty sections. Now the sections contains the `Type = Boxtile` entry and a call to the existing background image `Tile Center = backgrounds/dialog.png`. These changes gives now a dark background for the tab bar if set to Left or Right, however I suggest to use `Type = Image` for the new standard.skin - looks much better than `Type = Boxtile`.
  2. In addition also the [Pagebar Floating Skin.left] and [Pagebar Floating Skin.right] contains now a call: `Clone = Pagebar Button Skin` as well as the entry for `Fallback version = 3` (which is not necessary in a custom skin).
  3. Also the [Extender Button Skin] have changed. Formerly it was a clone of the bright Header Button Skin, now the existing dark `Tile Center = buttons/pagebar_button_inactive.png` is called as `Type = Boxstretch` as well as the padding/margin/spacing entries set to 0 (the margin/spacing entries seems to have no effect currently, padding shifts the arrow icon as expected).
  4. New are the sections [Dialog Wizard Header] and [Feature Setup Wizard Header Skin] which refers both to the existing bright-blue `Tile Center = backgrounds/menu-hover.png` defined as `Type = Boxstretch` with `Stretchborder = 1`. I have not yet found where I can see these headers.
  5. New are the entries `Extender Down Arrow = icons/arrow_down_bright.png` and `Extender Right Arrow = icons/arrow_right_bright.png` in the section [Boxes], calling the new bright arrow icons. These entries allows now to define separate icons for the [Extender Button Skin] mentioned above. The extender button skin seems to have a fixed width of 15px, so the icons/arrows cannot be wider (cropped), in the new standard skin they are both 7x7px. I appreciate these possibilities - now we can have individual icons for the extender menu button if the pagebar is set to top/bottom (right arrow) or left/right (down arrow) according to the chosen background in a custom skin. Formerly there appeared automatically the dark arrows scrollbar/right.png and scrollbar/down.png independent of the background.
  6. New is the entry `Bookmarks = buttons/bookmarks.png` in the section [Images], corresponding to the changed entry in the toolbar.ini inside the section [Customize Toolbar Browser.content] (mentioned below). Formerly the icon `Panel bookmarks` was in use with a wrong selected-effect for the bookmarks menu button.
  7. Deleted is the entry `Clone = Toolbar Skin` in the section [Cycler Pages Skin] (defines the area behind the tab cycler buttons, eg Ctrl+Tab); this section is empty now. The `Toolbar skin` is still working, but is not defined in the new standard skin.

Note: The hovered text color in the [Notifier skin] was invisible since the first opera 10 snapshot (eg in a mail notifier). Now this hover color have changed to a dark blue - but we cannot change this color (a [Notifier skin.hover] section have no effect). Formerly in 9.6x this color was red (unchangeable too). Note also, that the [Notifier skin] section in the standard-skin contains still the `Text color = #000000` entry twice and that there is also a probably unnecessary entry for `Color = Window`.

13. January 2009 - Skin changes since the alpha 1219

A new section and it`s entries in the skin.ini, a changed section as well as some changes and additional entries in [Boxes] and [Images]. New behaviour for the lockpad on locked tabs.

  1. New is the skin.ini section [Drag scrollbar skin] and it`s entries: the Tile center = entry refers to the new image drag_scrollbar/dragbar-back.png, the Child0 = entry refers to the new entry Drag scrollbar knob in [Boxes], see below
  2. New is also the entry Drag scrollbar knob = drag_scrollbar/drag-knob.png in the section [Boxes] which refers to a new image too
  3. Outcommented/deleted is the entry Trash = icons/trash.png in [Boxes]. This entry was unnecessary and interfering with the correct trash entries
  4. The entry Padding bottom = in the section [Tabs skin] have changed the value from 1 to -1. This way the unsightly 1px slip at the bottom of the tabs (in tabbed dialogs) is gone
  5. Deleted is the entry Tile center = edit/center.png in the section [Edit skin]; also the center.png itselfs is deleted. It seems that this change have something to do with the black edit fields we had if there was a colorscheme activated (resolved now)
  6. New are also the following entries in the section [Images]:

    Already existing are the images icons/tab_mail_unread.png and tab_label_important.png. New are the images icons/tab_folder_closed.png and icons/trash-attention.png. But the image buttons/info.png is lacking (I think it should be dialog_images/info.png)! The trash-attention.png is necessary for the trash icon in the tab bar - it`s behaviour have changed, following the changes in the toolbar.ini (section [Pagebar Tail.content]). The trash indicates now if there is a) nothing closed/blocked, b) closed pages or c) blocked popups. Perhaps the color difference between closed pages (trash_large.png) and blocked popups (trash-attention.png) can be a bit more clearly...

  7. Please note also; the following images have changed it`s color/brightness a little bit (they are a bit brighter now and have no longer a blue touch):

New button images and a new section for Mail-HTML-compose, changed images for the progress items as well as some new or changed icons in [Images]

  1. New is the skin.ini section [Mail compose multilineedit skin] which is a clone of the well known [Multilineedit skin]. The new section draws a 2px border around the edit-field. Please note the `Padding right = 0` entry - I assume this must be in order to prevent from having a border at the right of scrollbars there.
  2. New: in the sections [Propgress empty skin] and [Progress full skin] we have now `Type = Boxstretch` together with `Stretchborder = 2` instead of the old Boxtiles; new are the images progress/progress.png and progress/progress_full.png therefore - the old 18 png`s in the skinfolder progress/ are deleted. Note that Opera-versions before 9.5 cannot handle the `Boxstretch` type - there the type `Image` is valid then.
  3. New in the section [Images] are the entries Account Archive = icons/archives.png (existing image, 16x16px), Thread Button = buttons/thread.png (new image, 22x22px) and Homepage = buttons/home_blue.png (new image, 23x22px, copy of home.png). I don`t understand why this image have 23px width - all the other buttons are 22x22px! No, there are other incomprehensible exceptions: the icons/tools.png is 22x21px, icons/trash_large is 17x20px, also buttons/wand.png and buttons/wand_disabled.png are 23x22px!
  4. Changed are the transfer icons in [Images]; the icon icons/transfer_loading.png is now blue (formerly bright green). New is also the icon for Transfer Success = icons/transfer_success.png - this .png is new and now separate (bright green).
  5. Changed is the entry `Trash.attention = icons/trash_attention.png` (formerly referring to `icons/trash-attention.png` which is deleted now), but there is no new `trash_attention.png`! And: the .attention state have no effect on the trash-button in the pagebar tail as long as this button uses `Show HIDDEN popup menu...` as first button action inside [Pagebar Tail.content] in the toolbar.ini! If you exchange the entry

  2. New is also the section [Scroll Marker] - defines the left/right arrows and the animated .png (apng) as dotted line to find in the new skinfolder scroll_marker/. The scrollmarker you have to enable in Opera:config-User Prefs-Enable Scroll Marker - to see then while scrolling
  3. There are some changed skin.ini sections and two new icons.

  1. Deleted the entry `Height = 30` in [Pagebar skin] (more than 30 shifted the icons/images on the head/tail and the plus-icon/arrow to the top)
  2. Changed the `Text color = #D0D0D0` to `Text color = E0E0E0` in [Pagebar button skin] - it`s a brighter grey in order to differ better between unread and normal tabs
  3. Added `Padding right = 1` and `Color = Window` in [Edit skin]. The new right padding gives 1px less space between the right border and the content, eg icons at the right of the address field (due to the default of 2px). The window color is defined now through the operating system (there are differences: `Color = window` draws a 1px border on top of the defined border and draws also the inner-behind-text-part of some edit/search fields. But every other color here draws only the 1px border on top of the defined border)
  4. Changed Margins and deleted Paddings in [Push button skin] and [Push default button skin]. But Margins have no effect here and paddings shifts only the text inside the button (now the default of 2px padding is valid). If you like to see more space around the push buttons you have to change the paddings for the [Dialog Button Border Skin] (btw. `Spacing=` in the [Dialog Button Border Skin] seems to have no effect)
  5. Deleted the sections [Push button skin.disabled] and [Push default button skin.disabled], but they can still be in use if you don`t like the automatically dimmed images (to see eg in the `Tools - Mail and Chat accounts - Add...` dialog)
  6. Added the forgotten section [Start popup skin] which draws the individual background for the Start bar
  7. Added `Padding top = 1` and `Padding bottom = 2` to the [Addressbar skin], so we have now 1px less because of the default padding of 2px for both. Added also `Margin top = 0` and `Margin bottom = 0` - which have no effect here
  8. Added the lacking entry `Lock panel = buttons/lock_page.png` which refers to the already existing `buttons/lock_page.png`; it`s for the missed `Lock panel - button` in the Links panel - the padlock is in use also for locked tabs (ways to dark there imho)
  9. Added the entry `Mail Filter Inverted = icons/tab_filter.png` - this icon is new - for the use on the tabs
  10. Added the entry `Contact0 Inverted = icons/tab_from.png` - this icon is new too - for the use on the tabs

About the new fallback behaviour:

In 9.27 and older versions we had several skin parts without own skin sections; therefore we had some general sections, eg `Window skin` or `Browser window skin`. But since 9.5 we have own sections for much more skin parts; some worked before too and some are new. So it was necessary to introduce a new fallback behaviour, otherwise the new or changed parts appears also in older custom skins used with 9.5x as strange elements.

  1. In a custom skin used only for 9.27 and older versions, the entry `Version = 3` in [Info] have no effect; the old entry `Version = 2` is still valid then. The fallback behaviour in 9.27 is always: a lacking section have first fallback to the SAME section from the old standard-skin, and if this section is lacking too there, then the fallback goes to the BASE section from the custom-skin (and if the base is lacking too in the custom-skin, then fallback is the corresponding base from old standard-skin). Please note, that the BASE section means eg `Window skin` is the base of `Addressbar skin`, and the SAME section means eg `Addressbar skin` from the custom-skin - `Addressbar skin` from the old/new standard-skin.
  2. In a custom skin for 9.5x (and older versions) the entry `Version =` in [Info] have effect under several circumstances:

Remarks:

Classic-skin, new/changed:

  1. Most important change is the file name, the old skin is now called classic_skin.zip (with this change, the skin works no longer as fallback-skin).
  2. Added in the skin.ini inside the section [Options] are the entries Large images = 0, Fallback background = 1 and Fallback foreground = 1. The Large images = 0 entry prevents from appearing the checkbox `Large images` in Appearance - Toolbars (there are no separate large images in this skin). The Fallback... entries says that if a section in this skin is lacking, there should be displayed the accordant section from the standard-skin (except [Info] and [Options]).
  3. Changed is the complete section [Browser skin], most important is there the Padding right = 0 entry - so the 1px at the right of the scrollbar is now in use too! In previous skin versions this change produced bad effects in the background for the contact picture (Contact properties - General), but since we have there an own skin (see below), the problem is gone.
  4. New is the section [Web Image Browser Skin] which draws the background for the picture mentioned above; it is a clone of the Browser skin but here with Padding right = 1.

Standard-skin, new:
Please note, that it is not yet possible to report about every detail here; so I have to focus a bit to the most important differences - details follows by and by. Note also, that a lot of the new things are `work in progress`, so they may change again until the skin is finished.

  1. The new skin is now the standard_skin.zip - please never change the file name or the location of the standard-skin, this skin works as fallback for lacking or future things.
  2. Changed is the version entry in the section [Info], now it`s Version = 3 and it means approx. that this skin uses all the new things. The old value Version = 2 is still valid for an old custom skin; there the new things should not appear - so it is not necessary to change the version in an old custom skin!
  3. If you take the new standard-skin as base for a custom skin, the most important is to change first the Fallback entries to the value 1 in the section [Options]. Please change then from Fallback background = 0 and Fallback foreground = 0 to Fallback background = 1 and Fallback foreground = 1. So you are sure, that lacking sections or lacking entries in [Boxes] and [Images] in your custom skin are drawn by the standard-skin (except [Info] and [Options])! Default values for both is 1 if the entries not exists. For a custom skin, based on the new standard skin, it is also recommended to remove all the Fallback version = 3 entries you find in a lot of the sections - these entries are made for the standard-fallback-skin only in order to define the fallback behaviour for custom skins (if a custom skin have Version = 3 in [Options] then this skin have fallback to all the sections with Fallback version = 3, but if a custom skin is defined as Version = 2 in [Options] then this skin have no fallback to the sections with Fallback version = 3).
  4. New is the entry Pageclosebuttonontop = 1 in the section [Options]; the value 1 draws the pagebar close buttons on top of the tabs, value 0 draws the close buttons vertically centered. Default value is 0 if the entry not exists.
  5. New is also the entry Inverted Pagebar Icons = 1 in [Options]; since the tabs have a dark background, it is necessary to have alternative color-inverted icons which appearing there. The new skin have already such icons, eg icons/tab_label_todo.png which is inverted in comparison to icons/label_todo.png. So the value 1 displays inverted icons, but with value 0 you see the normal icons on the tabs. Default is 0 if the entry not exists. Here I have to mention something unfinished; also the pagebar head and tail have a dark background now, but there are no inverted icons possible...

So, that was a first portion of info. I`m perhaps sometimes wrong or not yet that precise with my statements about the new skin, but I hope it helps for the first tries - follows more.

New button-images buttons/secure.png and buttons/security_4.png with the corresponding entries in the skin.ini inside the section [Images]: High security simple = buttons/secure.png and Extended security = buttons/security_4.png (secure.png is a closed padlock in silver/grey and security_4.png is a closed padlock in gold/yellow). The new button.images appearing certificate-related inside the addressbar together with the new background therefore, but also the changed security button, reachable in Tools - Appearance - Buttons - Browser view, uses the new images.
  2. Changed are the sections [Security button skin] and [High assurance security button skin]: for both the old boxtile images are deleted - there are now the new boxstretch images trust_and_security_button/high_security.png (yellow for the `security button skin` - padlock silver/grey) and the trust_and_security_button/extended_security.png (green for the `high assurance security button skin` - padlock gold/yellow). It is highly recommended to draw these backgrounds in yellow and green and set colorize = 0, so these security items appears always and in each skin with approx. the same colors. In my opinion it is not a good idea to change the [Security button skin] to the type `Boxstretch`; this section is in use also in Opera versions before 9.5 (no boxstretch there), so such a custom skin is not compatible with the older Opera versions! Unclear is also the behaviour of all the `Fraud protection` items which appeared formerly on the same place in the addressbar.

Deleted:

  1. Deleted are some old entries in the section [Images]: Prefs Personal = contacts/contact_known.png, Prefs Browser = buttons/view.png, Prefs Pages = icons/page.png, Prefs Extensions = buttons/save.png, Prefs Network = buttons/security_3.png, Prefs None = icons/none.png (deleted are only the entries, but not the images - they appeared in the old preferences dialog in Opera before version 8).
  2. As mentioned above; the old security related background images are deleted: trust_and_security_button/high_assurance_bottom.png, high_assurance_center.png, high_assurance_left.png, high_assurance_top.png as well as trust_and_security_button/security_border.png and security_center.png (please note the comment about the changed `Security button skin` above!).

New:

  1. Type = Boxstretch is a completely new image type for sections; together with Stretchborder=xy a new key entry. If a section have the Type = Boxstretch, only the Tile center is taken, and Stretchborder=xy (desired numeric value in pixels, default if no entry is 2) defines how much is taken from the original tile center in order to draw the outer parts - the center part is then drawed with the rest, stretched horizontally and vertically. The outer top/bottom parts are stretched horizontally only and the outer left/right parts are stretched vertically only. The outer corner parts are not stretched. Very practical for button areas with rounded corners (because the corner parts are excluded and the top / bottom / left and right parts are partly excluded from stretching by Stretchborder=. So we can have now larger base images which are nicer if they are shrunken by Boxstretch. Also suitable for toolbars or gradients. Example:

    Margin= and Padding= seems to work as intended for the sections where Boxstretch/Stretchborder is in use. Also Border= and Border color= works as expected, and Blend= in .hover sections too. Width= and Height= are ignored eg in toolbar sections, but if I define a common button as Boxstretch section, eg [Go to homepage], then Width=/Height= works as expected - defines the desired final size. Finally I found a strange effect: if the original Tile center is about 70 x 70 px or smaller the stretched images are not blurred/interpolated, but if the original is larger than 70 x 70 the stretched result is blurred/interpolated. There is no blur at all for Type = Boxstretch if in opera:config-multimedia-`Interpolate images` is deactivated (the Type = Image is not affected by this setting).

  2. Here a shorter explanation: the type Boxstretch combines the advantages of the types Boxtile and Image - only 1 pic stretched like the type `Image` but with borders excluded from stretching like the type `Boxtile`:image
  3. The already existing [Tooltip skin] draws now the background for common tooltips too. Formerly this section (if defined) was the base for the tab thumbnails background (behind the [Thumbnail widget skin]) - now it is responsible for common tooltips too. Padding, Margin or Spacing have no effect in the [Tooltip skin] or the [Thumbnail widget skin] and: the `Thumbnail widget skin` is always drawed 1px smaller and on the top of the `Tooltip skin`! If you like to have different backgrounds for tooltips and thumbs, the only way to avoid the 1px-`bug` is to draw a 1px border in the [Tooltip skin] section with the same color as the thumbs background. Bear in mind that in the standard skin the Tooltip skin is defined as clone of the Edit skin.

They are duplicates of the old icons/group_closed.png and icons/group_open.png. Appearing as button icons for the new expanded dialogs like the `Delete private data dialog` or `Mail authentication failed dialog` and so on.
  4. New entry in the section [Images]: Mail no body = icons/mail_nobody.png is designed to appear for downloaded mails without body, where exactly?.

A résumé about the new expanded dialog buttons: Unknown is the sense of the [Expand icon skin], but with the [Disclosure triangle skin] you define the icon for the expander button, and with the [Expand skin] you define the things around the icon and text; padding, spacing, text color and so on (also a clone of the Push button skin is possible here, though unsightly oversized at the right due to the necessary space for translated button titles).

  1. Opera now supports APNG 1.0 (animated png) on webpages and on skins too. Please activate `Tools - Quick preferences - Enable Gif/SVG Animation` in order to see APNG animations in webpages (demos: here and here). In order to create apng-files you can try the Gif Movie Gear 4.2.0 APNG - please follow there the `Getting started`-steps (thanks to Lars). The quality difference between gif and apng in a skin and on webpages is immense. And the advantage of apng: you see the first frame instead of the animation if the browser doesn`t supports apng - so a skin containing apng-animations works also with older Opera versions (displays the first frame there) and a webpage with apng-animations, visited with another/older browser, displays the first frame too.   2. New: Pagebar Document Loading Icon = inside the section [Images]. Appears instead of the `Window Document Loading Icon` and appears only on the tabs - e.g. inside the windows panel or on the addressbar you see still the `Window Document Loading Icon` (thanks to Lars)
  3. No more disappearing numbers and borders on configured speeddial thumbs
  4. Note that the `Pagebar Close Button Skin` now appears on the notifiers at the right too

New are the Restore windows possibility inside the `Closed pages menu`, the Sync bookmarks option in the `File menu`, the Open with (FF, Ie?) entries in the `Document Popup Menu`, the History search - reachable with `opera:historysearch` or by typing in the searched into the addressbar, as well as the Drag to scroll switch in `opera:config#UserPrefs?|ScrollIsPan?`. But there are more things...

The Window cycler is renewed too; displays the current thumbnail only now (Opera:config - User prefs - `Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle` activated and then use CTRL+TAB in order to see the Window cycler).

There is some progress introducing the Speed Dial, but also a lot of work.

  1. The Startbar is back: [Startbar Skin] and [Start Popup Skin] (with the same content as it was in 9.2-8713). Hold in mind, that the corresponding sections inside the toolbar.ini have to be back too: [Start Toolbar.alignment] and [Start Toolbar.content]. The startbar overlaps the Speed dial search, not so nice, but Padding top = 15 or so inside the section [Speed Dial Widget Skin] helps. My wish is: the Speed dial search-part works as fully customizable `Startbar` including a button to enable/disable the thumbs-part...
  2. Thumbnail Reload Image = speeddial/reload.gif inside the section [Images]: the new additional animated gif appears on the left upper corner only during the thumbs-reload instead of the thumb number (but appears not if `Reload every...` is set). Margins, defined as comma-separated parameters inside this entry, have no effect, so you must insert transparent space inside the animation if necessary. Colorizing enabled as parameter, can have an effect; depending on the used colors and on the color scheme.
  3. Opera Logo = icons/opera.png inside the section [Images]: the already existing opera.png appears inside the thumbs configuration (Opera sites). The entry and the image for Myopera Logo image = speeddial\myopera-logo.png are deleted now.
  4. [Help Tooltip Close Button Skin] and [Help tooltip Close Button Skin.hover] are for the `Close` button on the new tooltip (appearing if you click What is Speed dial). In use as childs are the already existing Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png and Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png in [Images].
  5. [Help Tooltip Skin] is the background for the Help tooltip.
  6. New is also the Search button at the left of the search field. In use is there the [Push button skin].
  7. The [Thumbnail Image Skin] appears on the unhoovered thumbnail and is transparent there by default; you cannot change the transparency directly. It appears also on the unhoovered empty thumbnail, but there without transparency. If you define it as Type=Boxtile you can have tiles with it`s own transparency appearing on the unhoovered empty thumbs (and added to the default transparency on unhoovered thumb images).
  8. The [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] works now correct (in 8732 it was not really customizable). Also Blend= works fine here for the tiles if Type=Boxtile (generally: Blend= works not for Color= and Border color=)

The new Speed Dial-thing you see if you open a new empty tab; it seems to replace the old `Startbar`. If you click on `Hide Speed Dial`, the thing is hidden (Ctrl+1,2,3... still works); click on `Show Speed dial` on the right lower corner of an empty tab in order to reactivate the thing (or set `folded=0` in [prefs] inside the speeddial.ini).

Also the normal `Thumbnails on the tabs` are changed now, but hold in mind that the old [Tooltip Skin] have to be still there for Opera versions from 9.0 to 9.2-8713 preview.

The section [Startbar skin] is deleted (but hold in mind here too: still in use for all Opera versions from 7.6 to 9.2-8713 preview). Besides; the section [Start popup skin], related to the Startbar skin, is still there (but seems not to be in use for the new Speed dial thing).

  1. In the section [Boxes] you find two new entries: Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png and Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png. These images are in use for the Close-button at the top-right corner on each `Speeddial image` (see below the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin`).
  2. New in the section [Images] are the animated Thumbnail Busy Image = speeddial\busy_anim.gif used during loading a Speed dial thumbnail (you can use each animated gif), the Open pages = buttons/windows.png which uses the already existing windows.png inside the Speed dial configuration (thanks to Serafins), as well as the Myopera Logo image = speeddial\myopera-logo.png (used where?)
  3. [Speed Dial Widget Skin] is the entire background for the Speeddial tab
  4. [Thumbnail Image Skin] is in use on the `normal `Tab thumbnails`; there only as small border around the thumbnail. The [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] and [Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled] seems not to be in use for the Tab thumbnails, but [Thumbnail Image Skin] and [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] works as clones for the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin` and `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.hover` (and the [Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled] I have not yet seen).
  5. [Thumbnail Widget Skin] is the background around the normal `Tab thumbnails`. `Text color=` here changes the page title and the address above and below the thumbnail.
  6. [Thumbnail Title Button Skin]; not found
  7. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin] and [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] represents the colors you see on the top of the Speeddial thumbnails unhovered and hovered (White in different shades with the Standard skin). In the standard skin they are clones of the `Thumbnail Image Skin` and `Thumbnail Image Skin.hover`. The [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled] I have not yet seen.
  8. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin] and [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin.disabled] are for the background around the Speed dial thumbnails; .disabled you see if there is no thumbnail. `Text color=` inside the section [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin] changes the page title below the thumbnail.
  9. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Title Button Skin]; not found
  10. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin] and [Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin.hover]; the close button on the top right of each Speed dial thumbnail; in use as childs are Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png and Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png from the section [Boxes].
  11. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin]; outer background for the Speed dial configure dialog (rightclick a thumbnail or click on an empty `thumbnail`). Seems to include the area around the Push buttons inside this dialog. Includes also the shadow at the left and bottom of the dialog.
  12. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog No Alpha Skin]; seems to be the same as the `Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin` above, but "for systems that don't support alpha transparent windows" (no shadow at the left and bottom here).
  13. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Page Skin]; inner background for the Speed dial configure dialog (around the fields there).
  14. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Button Border Skin] is the area around the push buttons in the Speed dial configure dialog (paddings working well, but color or images here have no effect).
  15. [Speed Dial Search Widget Skin] is the area around the searchfield at the top of the Speed dial tab; in use is Tile Top = speeddial/search-top.png and Tile Bottom = speeddial/search-top.png (two times the same image as line), but the background concerns the whole area from the left to the right of the tab.
  16. All the new images you find in the new skin-folder speeddial.

Also the Window cycle seems to be affected at the moment (Opera:config - User prefs - `Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle` activated and then use ALT+Pageup / Pagedown in order to see the Window cycler). Here the background around the thumbnails is much larger than before (and it is still not clear why we cannot customize this part)

  1. Since 8629 see also 8643 : new [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin] and [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin.hover], this new sections describes the background in the addressbar at the right behind the fraud protection icon, appears with the !-icon and means: attention!. Please use `Colorize=0`, so this important security item is displayed always in the same color! It's quasi standard to draw this thing in red, according to the [Security button skin] in yellow and the [Low security button skin] in grey! For the fraud protection icon `i` and `?` the section [Low security button skin] is in use as background.

New or changed skin.ini sections:

  1. Since 8031 : new [Pagebar locked button skin], this new section describes the image that appears at the right of a pagebar tab if the tab is locked; trough the rightclick menu. The image is originally saved in the skin-zipfolder buttons/lock_page.png.
    • In the original it`s a locked padlock. Please use the same image size as for the [Pagebar close button skin] and if you are using also the same paddings, margins and so on, you have no problems.
    • Unfortunately Opera dim`s the image, so you are forced to take image colors with a high contrast to the tab. If the tabs for normal/selected differs to much, you can use in addition [Pagebar locked button skin.selected] with a different image.
  2. Since 8031 : No longer supported, individual settings .left, .bottom and .right for the [Pagebar head skin] and [Pagebar tail skin]
  3. Since 8212 : new [Tooltip skin], describes the background for the thumbnails in the tabs, no padding=/margin= possible, but color=, text color=, border=, border color= and `9tile-images` works well for the whole pop-up. The tooltips which appears with `Tools - Preferences - Advanced - Browsing - Show tooltips ON` you cannot change this way; the color there is taken from the operating system (in Win it is the color for `Quickinfo`, in Unix you must be able to change the color via Opera:config).
    • Someone asked about a border around the thumnail image only: in case you defined a color for the pop-up, you can add an image with the additional entries `Type=Boxtile` and `Corner topleft=xy.png`. The image must have the size 138x104px, please let 2px above and 2px at the left and then draw a 1px border to the right lower corner, save only the border as alpha channel. See also the post at myOpera
  4. Since 8212 : new [Low Security Button Skin] and [Low Security Button Skin.hover], this new section describes the background which appears at the right in the addressbar; greyed for sites using an encrypted connection, but have a low security rating.
    • Similar to the existing [Security Button Skin] but grey.
    • In order to follow non-troppo`s earlier discussed rule for the Security Button Skin I suggest here: grey with black textcolor, and please set Colorize=0 for this section!
  5. Since 8212 : new [Content Block Toolbar Skin], this section describes the background for the Content-block toolbar, which appears inside the page if you choose `Block content` in the rightclick menu of a page (allows simply to click page elements you wish to block in future).
    • No longer supported: sections for .left, .bottom and .right separately (and it seems not to be possible to customize this toolbar directly; no rightclick - customize).
    • If the section exists but no image and no color is defined, the background will be taken from the [Window skin].
  6. Since 8212 : new [Cycler Window Skin], this section describes the background for the window appearing if you press ALT+Pagedown or ALT+Pageup in order to cycle your tabs. Besides it is also the whole background for the same but enlarged window, if in Opera:config - User prefs - `Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle` is ON.
  7. Since 8212 : new [Cycler Skin], this section describes the background only for the middle part of the enlarged cycler window including the part behind the thumbnails at the right. So you are able to set a main background (Cycler Window Skin) and a possibly transparent background for the middle part (Cycler Skin).
  8. Since 8212 : new [Cycler Button Skin], I suppose this section is for the thumbnails in the case described above, but there is no effect. See also below in `Unfinished items`.

Other changes:

  1. Since 8031 : some Dialog-images appears now in the new Error console.
  2. Since 8212 : About the missing network tab; in Opera 9 we have the Site preferences dialog (rightclick in a page and choose `Edit site preferences`). Some users complained about the disappearing network tab there with several skins. The solution:
    • The network tab at the right disappears if the amount of margins and paddings left and right for the [Tab button skin] is to big. Possibly you have to count also the margins or paddings for the [Tabs skin] and remember also the entry Center tabs = 1 or 0 in [Options].
    • Unfortunately it is not on each computer the same effect; perhaps you see the tab, but with another machine the tab disappears. As a rule of thumb you can take: if you see enough space at the right for one and a half tabs more, your skin is alright. But if there is only space for about one tab or less, it is better to reduce the paddings and margins mentioned above. With Opera 9-8501 the tabs for the `Edit site preferences` dialog are: General, Cookies, Content, Display, Scripting and Network.
    • Please note also: the [Tab button skin] may change your pagebar tabs (see below) as well as: [Tab button skin] and [Tabs skin] changes the view of all dialog-tabs and the area around.
    • If your [Tab button skin] is not cloned or a clone of the [Pagebar button skin] you have only to change the mentioned paddings and margins, but if it is in reverse order, [Pagebar button skin] is a clone of the [Tab button skin], you have to work a little bit more (or thinking about to change the clone order).
  3. Since 8359 : a very old bug seems to be fixed; to choose a skin with the mouse in Appearance - Skins works now as expected also if some skins uses different paddings or margins in this dialog.
  4. Since 8460 : the difficulties around the Dropdown skin seems to be fixed now (mentioned in 8031 and 8432 )
  5. Since 8482 : the bad behaviour on the pagebar tabs seems to be fixed (mentioned in: 8460 )

Unfinished items:

  1. Since 8031 : new Missing bookmark = buttons/missing_bookmark.png and Highlight bookmark = buttons/highlight_bookmark.png in [Images], the temporarily tested controversial star in the addressbar is skipped, but the images and entries are still there.
    • It is possible to make a toolbar button with the same functionality as the star in the addressbar.
    • And: the `Notes` icon still appears in the addressbar if something from the current page is copied to the notes.
  2. Since 8212 : new .../buttons/pin.png, this button image was in use in the skipped widget mode. Now no longer used, but the image is still there.
  3. Since 8212 : new [Cycler Button Skin], I suppose this section is for the thumbnails in the cycler, but there is no effect (in v9-8501 the background there seems to be taken from the [Selector button skin])
  4. Since Opera 8: .../startup_dialog/header.gif, this old image was in use for Opera 7 / M2: the image is still there.

Unfortunately this bar seems not to have a own section in the skin.ini like all other progress bar parts (it is not the `Progress simple skin` and not `Progress general skin`).
  2. Mentioned in 8393 : Found in the toolbar.ini: Hide Opera,1 The `,1` as first parameter after the command seems to hide the shortcut `(Ctrl+H)` in the buttons title (which appears in the status bar, the statusfield and in the tooltip). For another button I saw `-1` in order to display the shortcut (and `no first parameter` in order to hide the shortcut); it seems to be the correct value if `1` is already in use for another purpose in this command.
  3. Mentioned in 8303 : New language file numbers; all entries are numbered in a new way; with nine- or ten-digit numbers now. After some primarily difficulties it seems to be this way now:
    • Toolbar.ini and Menu.ini for Opera 9.x only: please use the new numbers only.
    • Toolbar.ini and Menu.ini for Opera 8.x and 9.x: please use the old numbers, but in case of items which exists in Opera 9.x only use the new numbers. Opera seems to `translate` the old numbers into the new numbering if you change a toolbar (e.g. by drag and drop). We all hope this `translating mechanism` will stay as it is; otherwise there is a lot of work for all the button- and menu-tweakers...
  4. Mentioned in 8265 : Toolbar.ini - New parameters; in the section [Content Block Toolbar.content] you find the new entry: Button,"Block content",,2,0=Enable content blocker,,,,"Content block image" | Disable content blocker,,,,"Content block image" which is not in use currently; the commands are not valid. But very interesting are the new parameters between the leading `Button` and the `=`-sign (,,,2,0).
    • The first parameter is the well known buttons title ("Title" or a number without quotes for a language file entry). The second parameter concerns the well known font size for the buttons title (nothing or 100 is default size).
    • `The new third parameter` sets the button type in a new way by taking a skin.ini section:
    • Nothing, 0 or 1 is the [Push button skin] (with [Push default button skin] for .pressed, .selected and so on)
    • 2 is the original button image normally defined in [Images]
    • 3 is [Selector button skin]
    • 4 is [Link button skin]
    • 5 is [Tab button skin]
    • 6 is [Pagebar button skin]
    • 7 is [Header button skin]
    • 8 is [Menu button skin]
    • 10 is [Radio button skin]
    • 11 is [Checkbox skin]And `the new fourth parameter` sets the button style:
    • 0 sets it to be image only
    • 1 is text only
    • 2 is image with text below
    • 3 is image with text on right.Since 9.0-8265 the new third and fourth parameters seems to work with all buttons. Unfortunately it is actually not possible to submit such buttons (with parameters in front of the `=`sign) via "opera:button"... . Perhaps I`m wrong, but it seems that there is also no way to submit other things like checkboxes, quickbuttons, dropdowns and searchfields and so on (all things without `Button=` in front).
    • Hold in mind: the third and fourth parameter in front of the `=`sign you can only use for test purposes: they are changed automatically by Opera 9.x into normal buttons, checkboxes and radio buttons without 3./4. parameter as soon as the toolbar is changed, e.g. you drag and drop something on the concerned toolbar!

  1. Mentioned in 8455 : the command `Save document as,1` with the parameter `1`, found in the keyboard.ini.
    • This command saves as Html-file, all images are saved in a separate folder. To use in the menu- and toolbar.ini too.
    • The old commands `Save document` and `Save document as` seems currently both to save as common Html-file without images. The superold `Save with images as` works not since ages.

No chance to change something with margins or paddings for the `Pagebar close button skin` or the `Pagebar button skin`.
    • The above thing you see also if the pagebar is placed at left or right because there the width is limited. And here is the next thing which need attention: we do not have the possibility to set a `Pagebar max/min button width=` for the pagebar at left and right separately! Usually the max. for a horizontal pagebar is ways to much for the vertical bars at left/right (but this pious hope I have since Opera 7...).
  2. About the Addendum to 8432 : the difficulties around the `Dropdown skin` seems to be fixed now!

  1. [Tooltip skin]: Skin.ini. Describes the background for the thumbnails in the tabs, no padding=/margin= possible, but color=, text color=, border=, border color= and `9tile-images` works well for the whole pop-up. The tooltips which appears with `Tools - Preferences - Advanced - Browsing - Show tooltips ON` you cannot change this way; the color there is taken from the operating system (in Win it is the color for `Quickinfo`, in Unix you must be able to change the color via Opera:config).
    • Someone asked about a border around the thumnail image only: in case you defined a color for the pop-up, you can add an image with the additional entries `Type=Boxtile` and `Corner topleft=xy.png`. The image must have the size 138x104px, please let 2px above and 2px at the left and then draw a 1px border to the right lower corner, save only the border as alpha channel. See also the post at myOpera
  2. [Low Security Button Skin]: Skin.ini. This new section describes the background which appears at the right in the addressbar; greyed for sites using an encrypted connection, but have a low security rating.
    • Similar to the existing [Security Button Skin] but grey.
    • In order to follow non-troppo`s earlier discussed rule for the Security Button Skin I suggest here: grey with black textcolor, and please set Colorize=0 for this section!
  3. [Low Security Button Skin.hover]: Skin.ini. The .hover image for the Low Security Button Skin.
  4. [Content Block Toolbar Skin]: Skin.ini. This section describes the background for the Content-block toolbar, which appears inside the page if you choose `Block content` in the rightclick menu of a page (allows simply to click page elements you wish to block in future).
    • To define such sections for .left, .bottom and .right separately is no longer supported (that was temporarily possible).
    • If the section exists but no image and no color is defined, the background will be taken from the [Window skin] (since 8238).
  5. [Cycler Window Skin]: Skin.ini. This section describes the background for the window appearing if you press ALT+Pagedown or ALT+Pageup in order to cycle your tabs. Besides it is also the whole background for the same but enlarged window, if in Opera:config - User prefs - `Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle` is ON.
  6. [Cycler Skin]: Skin.ini. This section describes the background only for the middle part of the enlarged cycler window including the part behind the thumbnails at the right. So you are able to set a main background (Cycler Window Skin) and a possibly transparent background for the middle part (Cycler Skin).
  7. [Cycler Button Skin]: Skin.ini. I suppose this section is for the thumbnails in the case described above, but there is no effect: is there anybody who knows more?
  8. `Add widget = buttons/new_page.png` in the section [Images]: Skin.ini. This button image appears in the small toolbar you see at the right lower corner during a widget is displayed.
    • The existing image for `New page` is used.
  9. `Remove widget = buttons/delete.png` in the section [Images]: Skin.ini. This button image appears in the small toolbar you see at the right lower corner during a widget is displayed.
    • The existing image for `Delete` is used.
  10. `Pin widget = buttons/pin.png` in the section [Images]: Skin.ini. This button image appears in the small toolbar you see at the right lower corner during a widget is displayed.
    • The NEW image in ...buttons/pin.png is here in use.
    • Please note: in the small widget toolbar appears also the button image for `Close=...`.

  1. [Pagebar locked button skin]: Skin.ini. This new section describes the image that appears at the right of a pagebar tab if the tab is locked; trough the rightclick menu. The image is originally saved in the skin-zipfolder buttons/lock_page.png.
    • In the original it`s a locked padlock. Please use the same image size as for the [Pagebar close button skin] and if you are using also the same paddings, margins and so on, you have no problems.
    • Unfortunately Opera v9p1 dim`s the image, so you are forced to take image colors with a high contrast to the tab. If the tabs for normal/selected differs to much, you can use in addition [Pagebar locked button skin.selected] with a different image.
  2. Missing bookmark=buttons/missing_bookmark.png in [Images]: Skin.ini. This new image, a grey star, appears in the addressbar at the right and it starts the `Add to bookmarks`-dialog if the address isn`t already stored.
  3. Highlight bookmark=buttons/highlight_bookmark.png in [Images]: Skin.ini. If the address already exists in the bookmarks, this new image, a colorized star, appears in the addressbar at the right and pushing starts the bookmarks panel with the existing bookmark highlighted.
    • If you don`t like this new option, you can use the entrys but with an invalid image name: `Highlight bookmark=none.png` or `Missing bookmark=none.png` stops the one and/or the other star - thanks Moose.
    • If you `Copy to note` something from a page, the star would change to the Notes icon - clicking brings up the notes panel. However then it`s no longer possible to bookmark the page via the icon.
  4. Note also: at least the dialog-image for `Error` appears now also in the new Error console, e.g. mail - not connected. In some skins I had a box-image there with a fixed size and different childs for saving some filesize. But the fixed size results now in a very unsightly error image; v9.0p1 shrinks the image very strong in the console, but the fixed size prevents from shrinking...
  5. Changed behaviour in [Dropdown skin] for unknown reasons; now the inner text part of such a field seems to have a fixed size. The new thing makes it more difficult to style the dropdown skin, almost existing stylings there needs at least some adjustments:
    • Padding top/bottom= in [Dropdown skin] no longer concerns the `inner os-color part` of a field, but they still works for icons inside the field.
    • Padding left= shifts the icon at the left; it goes now under the inner text part, before it shifted together with the text part.
    • Padding right= shifts the icons at the right, e.g. `RSS`- and the new `Missing/Highlight bookmarks`-icons as well as the `Security Button Skin`, but they shifts over the inner text part and lets this part untouched, before the text part was hidden trough the outer part.
    • Vertical/horizontal margins are not changed, they gives space from the field to the toolbar borders/elements, like before.
    • The changes concerns also the [Dropdown Button Skin] at the right of such a field; the space for this button is now limited - thanks to Soedib and Mamiya Otaru.
  6. `[Pagebar head skin] and [Pagebar tail skin]`: Skin.ini. Individual settings for .left, .bottom and .right are no longer supported since 9.p1.

  1. [Secure popup header skin]: Skin.ini. This new section describes the image that appears as header in a pop-up with hidden addressbar; it shows the real (secure) address of this pop-up (click on the image displays the addressbar).
    • It seems this section replaces the "Panel toggle skin.top".
    • In the standard skin, the image displays the same yellow colors like the "Security button skin".
    • `Hidden addressbar` is only possible if "Allow script to hide addressbar" is ON in `Preferences - Advanced - Content - Javascript options`.
  2. [Secure popup header skin.hover]: Skin.ini. The .hover image for the Secure popup header skin.
  3. [Insecure Popup Header Skin]: Skin.ini. This new section describes the header image for an insecure pop-up.
  4. [Insecure Popup Header Skin.hover]: Skin.ini. The .hover image for the Insecure popup header skin.
  5. [Horizontal separator]: Skin.ini. This new section describes the images for horizontal separators, used for example in the new preferences or in appearance dialogs.

8.0 beta 1 [⊗]

  1. Trash.attention - highlights when a new blocked popup occurs.
  2. Panel Toggle Skin.top & Panel Toggle Skin.bottom - Defines the panel toggle for top/bottom, though the name is misleading as this actually defines the address bar toggle for pages who do not hve the address bar shown, such as popup windows with hidden address bar. The new horizontal toggle appears if there is a popup without addressbar, and if in the Javascript options "Allow script to hide addressbar" is On. The toggle switches the addressbar On (but not Off).
  3. Panel Toggle Skin.top/bottom In [Boxes] - the child images for the Panel toggle skin mentioned above.
  4. [Startup dialog skin] and [Startup dialog header skin] - Since 7.6p1 this two sections ar not in use in the standard skin, but the sections worked normally in each other skin. For many skinwriters this was the place to say which skin and which version is in use. But now, since 8.0b1, the [Startup dialog header skin] is out of order: the image appears not! Before we had a background from [Startup dialog skin] and a image with invisible elements on top from [Startup dialog header skin]. Actually the only way to have a header is: to change the background image on the top left corner. Is that the final solution?
  5. Personalbar icons and Windowbar icons - The behaviour of this icons in the personalbar and the pagetabs are heavy changed! Before, the dimension of the images was the skinwriters matter, but now...! If the image is larger or smaller than 16x16 pixels, the image shrinks or expands to 16x16. No chance to change that, no chance to have images in other dimensions. The only way is, to create invisible pictures in 16x16 and to place the real image inside the square. Perhaps thats because the Favicons have to be always 16x16?
  6. Spacing = xy - Since 7.6p4. To use in button sections. The entry describes the distance between icon and text in pixels, horizontally (Images and text on right) and vertically (Images and text below). But not in all cases: in the personal bar it describes only the distance between the icons! Perhaps we find other bars with this different behaviour (pagebar=distance between tabs)? Generally, for me it would be a good idea to have `spacing` also for single buttons, example "Back = small_buttons/back.png,1,2,3,4,5,6 (1=colorizing on/off, 2-5=Margins and 6=spacing), and for you?
