6. March 2008 - Skin changes since the preview / beta2-9945:

New:

  1. Skin.ini: Added Text color = #000000 to the section [Notifier], so now we are able to set the text color there (but we still cannot change the Red hover color in the notifier!)
  2. Skin.ini: New additional sections [Cycler page button skin.attention] and [Cycler page button skin.attention.selected] for a tab-analog behaviour in the page cycler (Ctrl+Tab). But there is a bug though: .attention.selected doesn`t works - it have to be .selected.attention!
  3. Skin.ini: New entry in the section [Images], Target folder = icons/folder_closed_link.png referring to the new/added icon image
  4. Skin.ini: New entry in the section [Images], Trash large = icons/trash.png, the icon therefore is already existing
  5. New icon-image icons/folder_closed_link.png as mentioned above
  6. The icons/dropup.png image is back; that was lacking since preview-9807

Changed:

  1. Skin.ini: Changed entry in the section [Images], from Thumbnail busy image = progress/busy_anim.GIF to Thumbnail busy image = progress/busy_anim.PNG, so now we have here an Apng-animation (which have 32kb file size!)

17. April 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9903:

Changed:

  1. The images buttons/secure.png and buttons/security_4.png have changed a little bit: before they had a size of 17x22px, now they are 22x22px and at the left I see now 2px invisible border and at the right 3px, in order to have some space between the icons and the following text.
  2. Changed is also the icon icons/mail_nobody.png which is now a dimmed envelope instead of the old broken envelope (incomprehensible is for me the file size of 2805 bytes; my preferred program compresses this png to 324 bytes...).

Notes:

Still unfinished:

  1. No changes in the unfinished `Menu skin` (may appear also in the menu buttons), `Tooltip skin` (no padding for common tooltips) and `Browser skin` (1px padding right is bothering the use of scrollbar knob), mentioned in the last changelogs.

Opera 9.5, 26.preview, 9903 [⊗]

8. April 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9864:

New/changed:

  1. New button-images buttons/secure.png and buttons/security_4.png with the corresponding entries in the skin.ini inside the section [Images]: High security simple = buttons/secure.png and Extended security = buttons/security_4.png (secure.png is a closed padlock in silver/grey and security_4.png is a closed padlock in gold/yellow). The new button.images appearing certificate-related inside the addressbar together with the new background therefore, but also the changed security button, reachable in Tools - Appearance - Buttons - Browser view, uses the new images.
  2. Changed are the sections [Security button skin] and [High assurance security button skin]: for both the old boxtile images are deleted - there are now the new boxstretch images trust_and_security_button/high_security.png (yellow for the `security button skin` - padlock silver/grey) and the trust_and_security_button/extended_security.png (green for the `high assurance security button skin` - padlock gold/yellow). It is highly recommended to draw these backgrounds in yellow and green and set colorize = 0, so these security items appears always and in each skin with approx. the same colors. In my opinion it is not a good idea to change the [Security button skin] to the type `Boxstretch`; this section is in use also in Opera versions before 9.5 (no boxstretch there), so such a custom skin is not compatible with the older Opera versions! Unclear is also the behaviour of all the `Fraud protection` items which appeared formerly on the same place in the addressbar.

Deleted:

  1. Deleted are some old entries in the section [Images]: Prefs Personal = contacts/contact_known.png, Prefs Browser = buttons/view.png, Prefs Pages = icons/page.png, Prefs Extensions = buttons/save.png, Prefs Network = buttons/security_3.png, Prefs None = icons/none.png (deleted are only the entries, but not the images - they appeared in the old preferences dialog in Opera before version 8).
  2. As mentioned above; the old security related background images are deleted: trust_and_security_button/high_assurance_bottom.png, high_assurance_center.png, high_assurance_left.png, high_assurance_top.png as well as trust_and_security_button/security_border.png and security_center.png (please note the comment about the changed `Security button skin` above!).

Notes:

Still unfinished:

  1. No changes in the unfinished `Menu skin`, `Tooltip skin` and `Browser skin` (Padding right there), mentioned in the last changelogs.

28. March 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9841:

New/changed:

  1. New icon-image icons/history.png with the corresponding entry in the skin.ini inside the section [Images]: History = icons/history.png (it is a smaller copy of the known `buttons/history.png`; appears where?).
  2. Changed back Padding right = 0 to Padding right = 1 inside the section [Browser skin]. A regression in my opinion; so the scrollbar have again 1px at the right which is not in use in order to scroll - unhandy!

Still unfinished:

  1. No changes in the unfinished `Menu skin` and `Tooltip skin`, mentioned in the last changelog.

18. March 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9815:

New/changed:

  1. New icon-image icons/widget_large.png with the corresponding entry in the skin.ini inside the section [Boxes]: Widget icon = icons/widget_large.png (it is a larger copy of the known `buttons/widget.png`; appears where?).
  2. The old unused sections [Startup dialog skin] and [Startup dialog header skin] are deleted now (the `Startup dialog skin` is still working).
  3. The section [Boxes] is moved to it`s old place above the `Images` section.

New/unfinished:

  1. The new section [Menu skin] uses now the correct `Browser window skin` if the section not exists; compatible now to older versions. But there is still the strange behaviour: if a boxtile or color is set for the `Menu skin`, this image/color appears in each hovered `Menu button`...
  2. In the section [Menu button skin] we can use now Margin too, so we have more possibilities to customize the menu bar. But the margins here are a bit strange; perhaps you have to increase the paddings too, because it seems that margin `eats` some padding...
  3. The paddings for the [Tooltip skin] still affects the speeddial thumbs and not as expected the common tooltips! For the speeddial thumbs we are already able to set padding in the section [Thumbnail widget skin]...

29. February 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9807:

New:

  1. New section [Menu skin] which allows to set a color or images separately for the menu bar. It seems NOT to be compatible with older Opera versions; if the new section not exists you see there now the [Window skin] (before it was the [Browser window skin]). Padding is currently not possible in this section; the only feasible padding here comes still from the [Menu button skin] (which is not a `toolbar padding`) - so the new section is not fully customizable and not backwards compatible (not yet, so I hope). ADDENDUM: If in the new section a border is defined or for instance images as boxtile, the `Menu skin` appears in each hovered menu button as repetition - obviously the new thing is not yet finished...
  2. New behaviour for the [Tooltip skin]: we can use now padding there, but - the padding affects the speeddial thumbs and not as expected the common tooltips! Remember: for the speeddial thumbs we are already able to set padding in the section [Thumbnail widget skin]...

22. February 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9789:

Deleted:

  1. Deleted old images: buttons/bookmarks_visited.png, buttons/folder_closed.png and buttons/pin.png.
  2. Deleted old images: contacts/special06.png and contacts/special07.png.
  3. Deleted old images: icons/new_page.png, icons/unite_globe.png and icons/dropup.png. I`m not sure about deleting the `dropup.png - this image is still in use and is lacking now, eg in the mail header-buttons or in the preferences header-buttons in order to display the ascending order...!
  4. Deleted old images in the folder selector_button/: deleted 18 images in this folder, except the image selector_selected.png.
  5. Deleted old skin-folders: startup_dialog/ with it`s content and toolbar_button/ with it`s content.
  6. Deleted old icon entry in the section [Images] of the skin.ini: Goto Widget Public Page = icons/unite_globe.png.

11. February 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9770:

New:

  1. New skin.ini sections: [Active element inside], [Active element inside inverse] and [Active element outside]. The section [Active element inside] defines the border images and the transparent center image for spatial navigation (eg highlighted links if you use Shift+Arrow keys in a webpage). Please note, that the additional section [Active element inside image] is not mandatory; delivers only the items for [Active element inside] via Clone = Active element inside image. The sections [Active element inside inverse] and [Active element outside] seems to define different images to `Active element inside` for some rarely used exceptions. I recommend to draw all these images in the intended blue - so the look and behaviour is with each skin the same. In addition I recommend to set Colorize = 0 for all the new sections - so the elements are not affected by Opera`s color schemes.
  2. New skin-folder: /a containing the images for the new sections mentioned above.
  3. New icon entry in the section [Images]: Goto Widget Public Page = icons/unite_globe.png which refers to the new icon-image icons/unite_globe.png (appears where?).

25. January 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9745:

Changed:

  1. The [Tooltip skin], mentioned in the changelog for 9745, accepts no longer a custom color for the text (Text color=); the tooltips text is always black. I hope that will be re-changed; because this way it is not possible to draw the tooltips with a dark background. In addition it is not possible to set Padding= or Margin= for tooltips - so at the moment the Tooltip skin is not fully skinnable.

Opera 9.5, 18.preview, 9745 [⊗]

18. January 2008 - Skin changes since the preview-9735:

New:

  1. Type = Boxstretch is a completely new image type for sections; together with Stretchborder=xy a new key entry. If a section have the Type = Boxstretch, only the Tile center is taken, and Stretchborder=xy (desired numeric value in pixels, default if no entry is 2) defines how much is taken from the original tile center in order to draw the outer parts - the center part is then drawed with the rest, stretched horizontally and vertically. The outer top/bottom parts are stretched horizontally only and the outer left/right parts are stretched vertically only. The outer corner parts are not stretched. Very practical for button areas with rounded corners (because the corner parts are excluded and the top / bottom / left and right parts are partly excluded from stretching by Stretchborder=. So we can have now larger base images which are nicer if they are shrunken by Boxstretch. Also suitable for toolbars or gradients. Example:
    [Example skin]
    Type = BoxStretch
    Tile center = imagefolder/center.png
    Stretchborder = 16

    image

Margin= and Padding= seems to work as intended for the sections where Boxstretch/Stretchborder is in use. Also Border= and Border color= works as expected, and Blend= in .hover sections too. Width= and Height= are ignored eg in toolbar sections, but if I define a common button as Boxstretch section, eg [Go to homepage], then Width=/Height= works as expected - defines the desired final size. Finally I found a strange effect: if the original Tile center is about 70 x 70 px or smaller the stretched images are not blurred/interpolated, but if the original is larger than 70 x 70 the stretched result is blurred/interpolated. There is no blur at all for Type = Boxstretch if in opera:config-multimedia-`Interpolate images` is deactivated (the Type = Image is not affected by this setting).

  2. Here a shorter explanation: the type Boxstretch combines the advantages of the types Boxtile and Image - only 1 pic stretched like the type `Image` but with borders excluded from stretching like the type `Boxtile`:image
  3. The already existing [Tooltip skin] draws now the background for common tooltips too. Formerly this section (if defined) was the base for the tab thumbnails background (behind the [Thumbnail widget skin]) - now it is responsible for common tooltips too. Padding, Margin or Spacing have no effect in the [Tooltip skin] or the [Thumbnail widget skin] and: the `Thumbnail widget skin` is always drawed 1px smaller and on the top of the `Tooltip skin`! If you like to have different backgrounds for tooltips and thumbs, the only way to avoid the 1px-`bug` is to draw a 1px border in the [Tooltip skin] section with the same color as the thumbs background. Bear in mind that in the standard skin the Tooltip skin is defined as clone of the Edit skin.

23. November 2007 - Skin changes since the preview-9656:

Note: only [Dropdown edit skin] and [Dropdown search skin] are prepared to fit the `mini status toolbar` - all the others are a bit to high and there is no way to change that...

16. November 2007 - Skin changes since the preview-9649:

  1. Deleted section: [Internal control skin] - I assume; it was never in use?
  2. New section: [Expand icon skin], only paddings there, appears where?
  3. New images: expand_button/open.png and expand_button/close.png which are in use as Tile center for [Disclosure triangle skin] and [Disclosure triangle skin.selected]. They are duplicates of the old icons/group_closed.png and icons/group_open.png. Appearing as button icons for the new expanded dialogs like the `Delete private data dialog` or `Mail authentication failed dialog` and so on.
  4. New entry in the section [Images]: Mail no body = icons/mail_nobody.png is designed to appear for downloaded mails without body, where exactly?.
  5. New image: icons/mail_nobody.png, mentioned above.

A résumé about the new expanded dialog buttons: Unknown is the sense of the [Expand icon skin], but with the [Disclosure triangle skin] you define the icon for the expander button, and with the [Expand skin] you define the things around the icon and text; padding, spacing, text color and so on (also a clone of the Push button skin is possible here, though unsightly oversized at the right due to the necessary space for translated button titles).

  2. New sections: [Expand skin], [Expand hover skin] and [Expand hover skin.hover] concerning the whole new `Detailed options` button in the `Delete private data` dialog. Seems to be unfinished: `...hover skin.hover...` (?) and the concerned Tile center, top, left, bottom and right-images are corrupted (tried also [Expand skin.hover]; works fine - you see the black corners around the arrow-icons and text - without the corrupted tiles).
  3. New sections: [Disclosure triangle skin] and [Disclosure triangle skin.selected]. In use are the already existing images icons/group_closed.png and icons/group_open.png, appearing as icons for the new `Detailed options` button in the `Delete private data` dialog.
  4. New entries in the section [Images]: Expand Enabled = expand_button/icon-enabled.png and Expand Disabled = expand_button/icon-disabled.png (note: Type=Image there). Seems to be a part of the unfinished [Expand skin]-thing...

And:

Opera 9.5, 2. preview, 9523 [⊗]

Skin changes since the preview-9500:

  1. Opera now supports APNG 1.0 (animated png) on webpages and on skins too. Please activate `Tools - Quick preferences - Enable Gif/SVG Animation` in order to see APNG animations in webpages (demos: here and here). In order to create apng-files you can try the Gif Movie Gear 4.2.0 APNG - please follow there the `Getting started`-steps (thanks to Lars). The quality difference between gif and apng in a skin and on webpages is immense. And the advantage of apng: you see the first frame instead of the animation if the browser doesn`t supports apng - so a skin containing apng-animations works also with older Opera versions (displays the first frame there) and a webpage with apng-animations, visited with another/older browser, displays the first frame too. See also the community thread Skinning with APNG
  2. New: Pagebar Document Loading Icon = inside the section [Images]. Appears instead of the `Window Document Loading Icon` and appears only on the tabs - e.g. inside the windows panel or on the addressbar you see still the `Window Document Loading Icon` (thanks to Lars)
  3. No more disappearing numbers and borders on configured speeddial thumbs
  4. Note that the `Pagebar Close Button Skin` now appears on the notifiers at the right too
  5. Note also the `Stop` button appearing during check or send on the new popup at the bottom of the mail panel
  6. Since preview-9500, changed view for the [Header button skin]. In dialogs or in mail views too, if you see the horizontal headers together with scrollbars; the right part of the header, above the scrollbar is now separated (and disabled by Opera). That makes sense, but is not very nice. You can define own darker or lighter images for the [Header button skin.disabled] in order to reach the same brightness like for the `Header button skin` (thanks to Skinner* and Ayush)

And besides:

(top)

Opera 9.5, 1. preview, 9500 [⊗]

Thanks to the team for the increased rendering speed! New are the Restore windows possibility inside the `Closed pages menu`, the Sync bookmarks option in the `File menu`, the Open with (FF, Ie?) entries in the `Document Popup Menu`, the History search - reachable with `opera:historysearch` or by typing in the searched into the addressbar, as well as the Drag to scroll switch in `opera:config#UserPrefs?|ScrollIsPan?`. But there are more things...

The Window cycler is renewed too; displays the current thumbnail only now (Opera:config - User prefs - `Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle` activated and then use CTRL+TAB in order to see the Window cycler).

NEW sections/entries:

  1. [High Assurance Security Button Skin] and [High Assurance Security Button Skin.hover], therefore you find four new images in the folder `trust_and_security_button/`; high_assurance_center.png, high_assurance_left.png, high_assurance_bottom.png and high_assurance_top.png. All these images have the color green - it is recommended to draw these parts in each skin with green color, including the entry `Colorize = 0` ! I suppose it`s for the `security-part` of the addressbar...
  2. [Edit Skin.mini] and [Edit Skin.disabled.mini], for the use on a small toolbar like the new statusbar (only I think) - displays 80% size of images and paddings (according to the official changelog)
  3. [Tooltip Skin], outer background for the thumbnails in the tabs and in the window cycle
  4. [Dropdown Skin.mini], for the use on a small toolbar like the new statusbar - displays 80% size of images and paddings (according to the official changelog)
  5. [Toolbar Button Skin.mini], [Toolbar Button Skin.hover.mini], [Toolbar Button Skin.selected.mini], [Toolbar Button Skin.pressed.mini] for the use on a small toolbar like the new statusbar - displays 80% size of images and paddings (according to the official changelog)
  6. [Cycler Page Button Skin] and [Cycler Page Button Skin.selected], background for the unselected resp. selected entries in the window cycler
  7. [Cycler Pages Skin], background behind the selected and unselected entries in the window cycler
  8. In [Images]: Close clicked page = icons/panel_collapse_small.png, already existing button image - for the use in the context menu of an unselected tab (for selected tabs it was already there)

  25. In [Images]: Status Image Succeeded = status/succeeded.png - new folder `/status` and new image, new image - visible in the status bar for the new sync bookmarks option
  26. In [Images]: Status Image Disabled = status/disabled.png - new folder `/status` and new image, new image - visible in the status bar for the new sync bookmarks option

CHANGED sections/entries:

  1. [Cycler Button Skin], changed inner background for the thumbnails in the window cycler
  2. [Cycler Window Skin], changed background for the whole window cycler; around the thumbnails and the entries
  3. In [Browser Skin] the entry `Padding Right = 1` is changed to Padding Right = 1; so the pixel at the right of the common scrollbar is now used in the standard skin too...
  4. In [Speed Dial Widget Skin] the entry `Border Color = #bec2cb` (blue-grey) is changed to Border Color = #a0a0a0 (colorless-grey)
  5. In [Images] the entry `Thumbnail Busy Image = speeddial/busy_anim.gif` have changed the path to Thumbnail Busy Image = progress/busy_anim.gif, so the image have changed it`s place only
  6. In [Images]: the entry Widget = buttons/widget.png have moved to the section [Boxes]

DELETED sections/entries:

  1. [Start Popup Skin] and [Startbar Skin] are deleted, at the moment the Start bar takes it`s images from the [Edit skin]
  2. [Cycler Window Skin], [Cycler Skin], [Cycler Button Skin] are deleted respectively replaced by the [Cycler...] sections mentioned above
  3. In [Options]: Large Images = 0 is deleted - but there are no large images in the standard skin - without this entry the option `Large images` in Appearance - Toolbars is always visible... (and: no you cannot enlarge the button images on the new status bar this way - only if the skin contains large button images you see them there - with 80% too)
  4. In [Images]: First Time Setup Dialog = dialog_images/opera.png is deleted

Summary of changes from Opera 9.1 to 9.2 final[⊗]

A summary of skin changes from Opera 9.1 to Opera 9.2 final-8771 including the individual preview/beta skin changelogs. Relevant notes `for tweakers` are mentioned too.

Changed are the `Tab thumbnails`, new is the `Speed dial tab` and new is also the (unfinished) `Gif animation support`

New skin.ini sections:

  1. New [Thumbnail Widget Skin] is the background around the `Tab thumbnails`; `Text color=` here changes the page title and the address above and below the thumbnail; Base: Tooltip skin > Edit skin > Black (no base). If in the `Tooltip skin` section a Border= is defined, you see the border always also in the `Thumbnail widget skin` (outside and in addition if the `Thumbnail widget skin` includes a border too). The border you see if no `Tooltip skin` is defined comes from the `Edit skin`
  2. New [Thumbnail Image Skin] is in use on the top of the `Tab thumbnails`; transparent on the thumbnail itselfs and as small border around the thumbnail; you cannot change the transparency, except with a transparent image; Base: Thumbnail widget skin; cloned for the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin`
  3. New [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover]; not found, but cloned for the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.hover`
  4. New [Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled]; not found
  5. New [Thumbnail Title Button Skin]; not found
  6. New [Speed Dial Widget Skin] is the entire background for the Speeddial tab; `Text color=` here changes in general the titles below the thumbs and the titles for `What is...` and `Hide Speed...`, as well as all the text in the speeddial tooltip; if no text color is defined the colors coming from the `Window skin` in general and individual from the `Toolbar button skin` for `What is...` and `Speed...` (see also `Help tooltip skin`); Base: Black (no base)
  7. New [Speed Dial Search Widget Skin] is the area around the searchfield at the top of the Speed dial tab; in use is speeddial/search-top.png for Tile top= and Tile bottom=; the background have the same width as the 3 thumbs; padding top/bottom works well, but padding left/right have no effect; Base: Speed Dial Widget Skin (I`m sure you know that you can change or disable the Speeddial search in Tools - Preferences - Search - Edit - Details)
  8. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin] is the background around the unused thumbs; `Text color=` inside this section changes the page title below the thumbs; Base: Speed dial widget skin
  9. New [Speed dial thumbnail widget skin.selected] is the background around the used thumbs and if selected for Edit/Customize; `Text color=` inside this section have no effect (is taken from `Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin` > `Speed Dial Widget Skin`); Base: Speed dial widget skin
  10. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin] is the background for the unused thumbs as well as with transparency on the top of the used thumbs and as small border there; you cannot change the transparency, except with a transparent image; Base: Speed dial thumbnail widget skin / the thumbs; clone of the `Thumbnail Image Skin`
  11. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] is the background for the unused thumbs if hover, as well as with transparency as small border around the used thumbs if hover (on the top of a hovered thumb it seems to be full transparent); Base: `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin` / the thumbs; clone of the `Thumbnail Image Skin.hover`
  12. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.pressed] works too, but makes not a big sense
  13. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled]; not found
  14. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Title Button Skin]; not found
  15. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin] defines the close button on the top right of each Speed dial thumbnail and on the speeddial configure dialog; in use as child is Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png from the section [Boxes]; with to much paddings left/right the image disappears, with to much paddings top/bottom the thumbs looks distorted...
  16. New [Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin.hover] is the above close button if hover; in use as child is Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png from the section [Boxes]
  17. New [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin]; outer background for the Speed dial configure dialog (appearing if you rightclick a thumb or click on an empty `thumb`), including the shadow at the left and bottom of the dialog; Base: nothing - full transparent
  18. New [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog No Alpha Skin]; the same as above, but "for systems that don't support alpha transparent windows" (no shadow at the left and bottom here); Base: nothing - full transparent (I think)
  19. New [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Page Skin]; inner background for the Speed dial configure dialog; Base: Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin > nothing
  20. New [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Button Border Skin] is the area around the push buttons in the Speed dial configure dialog; paddings working well, but color or images here have no effect; use Padding top= to move down/up the buttons; Base: Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin > nothing
  21. New [Help Tooltip Skin] is the background for the Help tooltip (click `What is Speed Dial`); `Text color=` here changes the text color, as well as the title color for the `More`-link and if not defined, the colors coming from the `Speed Dial Widget Skin` (text) and from the `Link button skin` (more-link); Base: nothing - full transparent
  22. New [Help Tooltip Close Button Skin] is for the `Close` button on the speeddial tooltip; in use is the same button as for the thumbs: Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png in [Boxes] as child
  23. New [Help Tooltip Close Button Skin.hover] is for the same button as above if hover; in use is here the Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png in [Boxes] as child
  24. New in the section [Boxes] is the Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png used as child for the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin` and `Help Tooltip Close Button Skin`
  25. New in the section [Boxes] is the Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png used as child for `Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin.hover` and `Help Tooltip Close Button Skin.hover`
  26. New in the section [Images] is Open pages = buttons/windows.png which uses the already existing windows.png inside the thumbs configuration
  27. New in the section [Images] is Opera Logo = icons/opera.png which uses the already existing opera.png inside the thumbs configuration
  28. New in the section [Images] is the animated Thumbnail Busy Image = speeddial/busy_anim.gif, used centered during loading a thumbnail
  29. New in the section [Images] is also the animated Thumbnail Reload Image = speeddial/reload.gif: appears on the left upper corner only during the thumbs-reload instead of the thumb number (also if `Reload every...` is set). Margins, defined as comma-separated parameters inside this entry, have no effect, so you must insert transparent space inside the animation if necessary. Colorizing enabled as parameter, can have an effect; depending on the used colors and on the color scheme
  30. New is also the Search button at the left of the Speed dial search field; in use is there the [Push button skin]

Summary for tweakers:
  1. Addition in the menu.ini about the Reload every-menu in [Speed dial thumbnail popup menu] and note also the `,-2` behind each item there, means: concerns the clicked thumb (with `,1` / `,2` / `,3` ... the item concerns the thumb 1 / 2 / 3 ...)
  2. New option in Opera:config - User Prefs: Speed Dial State = 0/1/2/3 (0 is folded/like Hide speed dial, 1 is shown, 2 is Configure.../Hide.../What... disabled, 3 is completely disabled
  3. With the option in Opera:config - User Prefs: Speeddial Search Type= you can change the speeddial search engine (or more comfortable in: Tools - Preferences - Search - Edit - Details)
  4. With the command: Go to speed dial,x you can reach one of the 9 `speeded things`; where x is a number from 1 to 9 (keyboard.ini, menu.ini, mouse.ini and toolbar.ini); Inside the toolbar.ini, you can use the first parameter in order to not display the shortcut in tooltips or on the statusbar, so Go to speed dial,"-1",2 means: Go to the speed dial 2 without displaying the shortcut
  5. For the Speed dial tab itselfs you need no separate command: New page does it in each case; but you can use also Show speed dial as command
  6. Some changes/additions in the english.lng, keyboard.ini, and menu.ini; for the most part about speed dial but also mentioning the developer tools (as well as a lot of corrections and above all the changed precondition Platform Windows-Mac-MCE instead of Platform Windows-Mac-QNX in the menu.ini)
  7. Changed entry for `Mark as read` (now `Mark as read | Mark as unread`) in [Customize toolbar mail.content] inside the toolbar.ini
  8. Note also the deleted search fields in [Start toolbar.content] inside the toolbar.ini
  9. In the keyboard.ini the entry F6 = Set widget mode, 1 | Set widget mode, 0 is deleted.

  2. In the section [Speed dial configuration dialog no alpha skin] the Corner topleft = speeddial/overlay_dialog_top-left_noalpha.png is new and also the file speeddial/overlay_dialog_top-left_noalpha.png is new.
  3. In the section [Speed dial thumbnail widget skin] the Tile center = speeddial/dark-center.png is gone and the file speeddial/dark-center.png is deleted.
  4. The file speeddial/center.png is deleted (previously used in the `Speed dial thumbnail widget skin.disabled`).

Skin changes since the preview-8746:

About animated gifs see the community-thread Skinning with animated images...

Small changes:

  1. In the section [Speed dial widget skin] we can use now also the entry Text color= (for `What is speed dial / Hide speed dial / Show speed dial`). If Text color= is not set, the text color from the [Toolbar button skin] is used here, including .hover and paddings and so on.
  2. In the section [Help tooltip skin] the entry Text color= changes the text and now also the color of the `More...`- link. If Text color= is not set here, the text color from the [Link button skin] is in use for the link, including .hover and paddings and so on, but the text color from [Window skin] is in use for the big text part.
  3. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.pressed] works (since 8732), but makes not a big sense.
  4. The Thumbnails appears now also in the `Window panel` if Show Tooltips is enabled in Tools - Preferences - Advanced - Browsing. In use is therefore the [Thumbnail widget skin] > Tooltip skin > Edit skin > Black (no base). At the moment there seems to be no possibility to enable/disable this thumbnails separately...

Opera 9.2, 5. preview, 8746 [⊗]

Skin changes since the preview-8732:

Note the community-thread Skinning with animated images...

There is some progress introducing the Speed Dial, but also a lot of work.

  1. The Startbar is back: [Startbar Skin] and [Start Popup Skin] (with the same content as it was in 9.2-8713). Hold in mind, that the corresponding sections inside the toolbar.ini have to be back too: [Start Toolbar.alignment] and [Start Toolbar.content]. The startbar overlaps the Speed dial search, not so nice, but Padding top = 15 or so inside the section [Speed Dial Widget Skin] helps. My wish is: the Speed dial search-part works as fully customizable `Startbar` including a button to enable/disable the thumbs-part...
  2. Thumbnail Reload Image = speeddial/reload.gif inside the section [Images]: the new additional animated gif appears on the left upper corner only during the thumbs-reload instead of the thumb number (but appears not if `Reload every...` is set). Margins, defined as comma-separated parameters inside this entry, have no effect, so you must insert transparent space inside the animation if necessary. Colorizing enabled as parameter, can have an effect; depending on the used colors and on the color scheme.
  3. Opera Logo = icons/opera.png inside the section [Images]: the already existing opera.png appears inside the thumbs configuration (Opera sites). The entry and the image for Myopera Logo image = speeddial\myopera-logo.png are deleted now.
  4. [Help Tooltip Close Button Skin] and [Help tooltip Close Button Skin.hover] are for the `Close` button on the new tooltip (appearing if you click What is Speed dial). In use as childs are the already existing Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png and Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png in [Images].
  5. [Help Tooltip Skin] is the background for the Help tooltip.
  6. New is also the Search button at the left of the search field. In use is there the [Push button skin].
  7. The [Thumbnail Image Skin] appears on the unhoovered thumbnail and is transparent there by default; you cannot change the transparency directly. It appears also on the unhoovered empty thumbnail, but there without transparency. If you define it as Type=Boxtile you can have tiles with it`s own transparency appearing on the unhoovered empty thumbs (and added to the default transparency on unhoovered thumb images).
  8. The [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] works now correct (in 8732 it was not really customizable). Also Blend= works fine here for the tiles if Type=Boxtile (generally: Blend= works not for Color= and Border color=)

Here the base you see if a section have no image or color defined:

Opera 9.2, 4. preview, 8732 [⊗]

Skin changes since the preview-8713:

Please note the community-thread Skinning with animated images...

The new Speed Dial-thing you see if you open a new empty tab; it seems to replace the old `Startbar`. If you click on `Hide Speed Dial`, the thing is hidden (Ctrl+1,2,3... still works); click on `Show Speed dial` on the right lower corner of an empty tab in order to reactivate the thing (or set `folded=0` in [prefs] inside the speeddial.ini).

Also the normal `Thumbnails on the tabs` are changed now, but hold in mind that the old [Tooltip Skin] have to be still there for Opera versions from 9.0 to 9.2-8713 preview.

The section [Startbar skin] is deleted (but hold in mind here too: still in use for all Opera versions from 7.6 to 9.2-8713 preview). Besides; the section [Start popup skin], related to the Startbar skin, is still there (but seems not to be in use for the new Speed dial thing).

  1. In the section [Boxes] you find two new entries: Speeddial Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png and Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png. These images are in use for the Close-button at the top-right corner on each `Speeddial image` (see below the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin`).
  2. New in the section [Images] are the animated Thumbnail Busy Image = speeddial\busy_anim.gif used during loading a Speed dial thumbnail (you can use each animated gif), the Open pages = buttons/windows.png which uses the already existing windows.png inside the Speed dial configuration (thanks to Serafins), as well as the Myopera Logo image = speeddial\myopera-logo.png (used where?)
  3. [Speed Dial Widget Skin] is the entire background for the Speeddial tab
  4. [Thumbnail Image Skin] is in use on the `normal `Tab thumbnails`; there only as small border around the thumbnail. The [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] and [Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled] seems not to be in use for the Tab thumbnails, but [Thumbnail Image Skin] and [Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] works as clones for the `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin` and `Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.hover` (and the [Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled] I have not yet seen).
  5. [Thumbnail Widget Skin] is the background around the normal `Tab thumbnails`. `Text color=` here changes the page title and the address above and below the thumbnail.
  6. [Thumbnail Title Button Skin]; not found
  7. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin] and [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.hover] represents the colors you see on the top of the Speeddial thumbnails unhovered and hovered (White in different shades with the Standard skin). In the standard skin they are clones of the `Thumbnail Image Skin` and `Thumbnail Image Skin.hover`. The [Speed Dial Thumbnail Image Skin.disabled] I have not yet seen.
  8. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin] and [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin.disabled] are for the background around the Speed dial thumbnails; .disabled you see if there is no thumbnail. `Text color=` inside the section [Speed Dial Thumbnail Widget Skin] changes the page title below the thumbnail.
  9. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Title Button Skin]; not found
  10. [Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin] and [Speed Dial Thumbnail Close Button Skin.hover]; the close button on the top right of each Speed dial thumbnail; in use as childs are Close = speeddial/speeddial-close.png and Speeddial Close Hover = speeddial/speeddial-close-hover.png from the section [Boxes].
  11. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin]; outer background for the Speed dial configure dialog (rightclick a thumbnail or click on an empty `thumbnail`). Seems to include the area around the Push buttons inside this dialog. Includes also the shadow at the left and bottom of the dialog.
  12. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog No Alpha Skin]; seems to be the same as the `Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin` above, but "for systems that don't support alpha transparent windows" (no shadow at the left and bottom here).
  13. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Page Skin]; inner background for the Speed dial configure dialog (around the fields there).
  14. [Speed Dial Configuration Dialog Button Border Skin] is the area around the push buttons in the Speed dial configure dialog (paddings working well, but color or images here have no effect).
  15. [Speed Dial Search Widget Skin] is the area around the searchfield at the top of the Speed dial tab; in use is Tile Top = speeddial/search-top.png and Tile Bottom = speeddial/search-top.png (two times the same image as line), but the background concerns the whole area from the left to the right of the tab.
  16. All the new images you find in the new skin-folder speeddial.

Also the Window cycle seems to be affected at the moment (Opera:config - User prefs - `Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle` activated and then use ALT+Pageup / Pagedown in order to see the Window cycler). Here the background around the thumbnails is much larger than before (and it is still not clear why we cannot customize this part)

A little bit unfinished all the things, but on a good way...

A summary of skin changes from Opera 9 to Opera 9.1 final-8679 including the individual preview skin changelogs. Relevant notes `for tweakers` are mentioned too. All the skin changes are added also to the AdvancedSkinGuide.

New or changed skin.ini sections:

  1. Since 8629 see also 8643 : new [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin] and [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin.hover], this new sections describes the background in the addressbar at the right behind the fraud protection icon, appears with the !-icon and means: attention!. Please use `Colorize=0`, so this important security item is displayed always in the same color! It's quasi standard to draw this thing in red, according to the [Security button skin] in yellow and the [Low security button skin] in grey! For the fraud protection icon `i` and `?` the section [Low security button skin] is in use as background.
  2. Since 8629 see also 8653 : new Trust Information=buttons/trust_info.png, Trust Unknown=buttons/trust_unknown.png and Trust Fraud=buttons/trust_fraud.png in the section [Images]. The images appears always visible inside the addressbar at the right as well as in the fraud protection dialog (increased there). Please use i, ? and ! as icons for these important fraud protection indicators. Suggestion: i=green, ?=yellow and !=red.
  3. Since 8629 see also 8649 : new Dialog Stop=dialog_images/stop.png in the section [Images]. This image exists since Opera 9.1-8629. During the preview phase it was for a short time in use for the fraud protection warning (called from the warning.css). Now there the old Dialog Warning-image is called, but perhaps the Dialog Stop-image is still in use in other circumstances.
  4. Since 8643 : changed [Security button skin] and [Low security button skin], now the backgrounds are drawed as 9-part boxtiles and all related images are stored in the skinfolder .../trust_and_security_button (together with the image parts for the [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin] mentioned above).
  5. Since 8653 : changed Padding right = 2 (before 8) in the section [Low Security Button Skin] (as well as in [Untrusted Site Security Button Skin]) and theire clones inside the skin.ini - so the space between the icons and the background border inside the addressbar is smaller now.

Summary for tweakers:
  1. IMPORTANT since Opera 9: all buttons with a action after the `+`sign (a second action for `hold the button` but not a menu/hidden menu) works only properly if you have activated the `Special effects` in Tools - Appearance - Skin!
  2. Changes in the keyboard.ini concerning the platform preconditions.
  3. Changes in the menu.ini and several new entries concerning the fraud protection in the language file.
  4. The new commands `Trust fraud`, `Trust information` or `Trust unknown` allows a button outside the addressfield which displays the new Fraud protection dialog for the current page - unfortunately it seems not to be possible to change the button icons for unknown, information/trusted or fraud (the dialog changes well).
  5. Concerning the command `Show security information`: since the introduction of the fraud protection extension, this command displays the new certificate/fraud protection dialog (also with the old Security button).
  6. An old bug in the toolbar.ini seems to be corrected now: in the section [Customize Toolbar Mail.content] the old not existing language-number 22305 is now corrected to 26551 ("Add contact"). And the Reload-button in [Source View Toolbar.content] is now numbered with 1094079060 ("Apply changes") instead of the old 51212 ("Reload from cache").
  7. Note the new section [Widgets widget] in the standard toolbar.ini.
  8. Concerning Identify as...
