Hi and welcome to the WikiPage? for the Opera skin Breeze, originally based on Flyson's Breeze for Mozilla.

This is the latest version of Breeze. It uses the same icons for both small and big mainbar images, but with more padding around the big images to allow a compact / expanded look for the mainbar.
For those who crave for even more free screen space, MICRO versions of Breeze Simplified are also available. These skins use some of the information on the OperaSkinTips page. It uses smaller icons so the bookmarks hotlist/manager can cram more items in them. These skins are not for the faint of heart - whenever a choice had to be made about aesthetics vs. efficiency - efficiency always wins for MICRO skins!

For those who crave this light and simplified 'look' for more than just Opera, a customised colour scheme for Windows 95/98/2000/XP representing the Breeze Simplified aesthetic is available (see above screenshot). Installation is based on a small opensource program called ECS, which modifies the Windows GUI colour values. If you want to try this, download this file (11Kb), unzip it and follow the instructions in the readme.txt. All changes can be undone with a single command.
This seems to be broken with ECS v6596, as ECS has changed its data format. Be sure to use the version included in the zip file.

Breeze II after being dropped from a great height... not yet updated for V7.1

If you want to add a skinned status bar to any skin you want, just click below to download the ZIP file, open it up, put the 'status' directory in your skin's ZIP file and add the contents of readme.txt to your skin.ini. You may want to play around with the padding and margins to fit in with your skins size. It is monochromatic/transparant, so it will blend in with any coloured background a skin may have...
If you do modify the skin to make a new version — all I ask is that if you have a link to it, could you put the address here. Cheers!

Wait, are those just colour schemes?
bzq-218-99-210.red.bezeqint.net (2003-05-01 06:01:48)
The different colours are determined when the page has just loaded in the background (it goes red). The stronger contrast depends on your monitor! And the text size is determined in Windows (dialog font - see Opera7Tips) not in the skin.
NonTroppo (2003-05-03 00:32:27)
Must the new "Breeze Simplified" skin be white? If I change the colour scheme, it's just the hover images that change, the skin itself is always whiteish... :\
bzq-218-70-224.red.bezeqint.net (2003-05-23 09:38:23)
Another thing I've noticed, about the progress bar... Is that really how it is supposed to look? Blue text colour over gray? Any chance you could change this...? pwease?
bzq-218-70-224.red.bezeqint.net (2003-05-23 09:57:04)
For me, the whole skin changes - but you need to use strong colour scheme values, e.g. Gold gets me a clear subtle-brownish effect. Maybe this depends on your monitor?
NonTroppo (2003-05-23 09:59:07)
I use the "Sea" colour scheme. When using it, the skin colour changes to white for some reason. In case you don't have it: Item, 67438 = Set skin coloring, #2F83B3.
When I change to the "Gold" colour scheme, it works fine.
Could you please look into this?
bzq-218-70-224.red.bezeqint.net (2003-05-23 10:49:18)
Sea gives me a nice subtle but clear blue hue? Have you gamma-corrected your monitor? Dou you use an LCD or CRT?
NonTroppo (2003-05-24 13:47:04)
CRT.
With Breeze Simplified, using the Sea scheme, the skin is always whitish and the only time I get something "blue" with it is when I hover buttons.
With Breeze II, using the Sea scheme, the skin's colour is "sea blue". All of it... Not trace of white on it.
BTW, the download of Breeze Simplified from your site gives a 404 error page.
bzq-218-84-221.red.bezeqint.net (2003-05-27 03:23:32)
404 error fixed.
What about using blue color scheme - does that work? I think it is just that your color setting are different to mine - try adding a pure blue #0000FF and see if it works. Color schemes are not an exact science, each skin reacts differently. I don't like strong colors in the color schemes, so Breeze Simplified gives me more delicate hues than before. If you still have trouble, try editing the skin ZIP and replacing the window, panel, and header directories with the contents from BreezeII?, that will change the backgrounds with the original Breeze versions. Does that do what you need?
NonTroppo (2003-05-27 13:54:58)
Hrm, nm about the Breeze Simplified problem, I like Breeze II more anyways ;) it's the ultimate skin.
Is there a chance you could come up with a different hover affect for the buttons for it, though?
bzq-218-208-158.red.bezeqint.net (2003-06-14 03:57:12)
Any idea on what you'd like? I wasn't that keen originally as it 'bloats' the skin somewhat (will increase memory slightly), but if I get time a may make a version with cooler hover states...
NonTroppo (2003-06-17 23:52:12)
This is a really nice skin. Im now using it for opera as well as a variation of your windows theme. Thanks.

This is a wonderful skin. I always love minimalistic.
One question: In the Hotlist Bar, there are no icons for the items in the Bookmarks Panel. I would like to maintain this state but with one request
@--> Is there a way to set a font colour for the folders, another colour for the subfolders and another colour for each bookmark? <--@
bbcache-8.singnet.com.sg (2003-10-01 15:04:23)
That would be REALLY great (I'd prefer the background colour to change though), but there is no way I know on how to do this. Even the alternative highlighting seen in the bookmark manager (ctrl+alt+b) would be better than nothing for the hotlist. Try http://bugs.opera.com/wizard/ and make an "enhancement" request, or use the forums / newgroup wishlist...
NonTroppo (2003-10-01 16:19:59)
Just wanted to say thanks for the Micro skin. Breeze Simplified was my original pick when I first installed Opera a week ago, but I just found Micro and love it even better. No more fiddling with the width of the hotlist. Clean simple efficient. Yay!
as09-okc-ok-207-92-162-48.rasserver.net (2003-10-02 06:41:49)
Thanks a million for the Native version! (I fixed the link, you had it linked to Micro ;))
DarkElf (2003-10-05 14:50:57)
Micro with the sea color scheme does it for me ;-)
SeaKai (2003-10-05 21:51:54)
Just updated to the updated Breeze Micro... It seems it is *less* space efficient on the page bar (a larger white space for the page icon just before the page title text) and on the address bar. I hope this is not as designed :)
SeaKai (2003-10-05 22:33:54)
I love your Breeze skins....great job, NonTroppo!
c68.112.176.57.fdl.wi.charter.com (2003-10-06 07:06:29)
Yep SeaKai, an error on my part, and now fixed!
NonTroppo (2003-10-06 08:18:06)
Thank you very much Nontroppo ! Micro is absolutely my favourite skin :) I love the additional icons.
Now I noticed another thingy, if you don't mind ... Open a link in a new window. The new page/tab title will have trailing whitespace. Switch to the previous page, and the trailing whitespace disappears. IMHO it shouldn't be there to start with ! Thanks again !
SeaKai (2003-10-06 11:06:28)
Um, do you mean "new page" rather than "new window"? If so, then I think that whitespace is there because of the "page loading" icon indicator - if so there not much that can be done (I want to keep that icon there). Try commenting out line 815 and/or 816 of skin.ini and see what happens.
NonTroppo (2003-10-06 15:18:29)
sorry, didn't mean 'comment out' but change the image (after the "=" sign) to icons/bit.png
NonTroppo (2003-10-06 15:23:38)
I meant Pages indeed. Legacy terminology.
I'm very much appreciating the Window Document Unread & Window Document Loading Icons and like to keep them as well. But that wasn't the problem. I've changed Pagebar min button width = 40 (was 80) and that is much more economical on the page bar. ('Yahoo!' fits nicely without trailing whitespace in complete, read state.). Obviously larger titles get as much as Pagebar max button width=280, which is fine since it still gets shrunk when the Pagebar overflows. So I'm recommending that little change (Pagebar min button width = 40). I don't mean to split hairs, but Micro *is* about these little things, isn't it ? :-)
SeaKai (2003-10-06 17:16:13)
But even with that change the trailing whitespace seems to remain... I suspect it is indeed because of the (Loading,Unread) icons that dissapear when you click the tab. But the tab only resizes when you click another one and which point the tab size becomes smaller eliminating the trailing whitespace.
SeaKai (2003-10-06 17:28:52)
Then again the Transfers Page changes size on its own when it goes from 'Transfers (0:01)' to 'Transfers'. I'm puzzled.
SeaKai (2003-10-06 17:42:12)
MICRO is changed (I can't change the min/max width for the native version because there is a bug whereby different min/max values seem to break the extender / auto resizing of the tabs). I think I can't fix the 'whitespace' issue - maybe some tweaking of the padding / margins of the page bar buttons could improve the situation, but I doubt it.
NonTroppo (2003-10-06 19:00:44)
Thanks !
SeaKai (2003-10-06 19:03:41)
The new Micro has permanent leading white space again (document loaded & read)in the page tabs and on the address bar. I'm currently using the previous version with Pagebar min button width=40
SeaKai (2003-10-07 19:10:55)
Yeah...the leading white space is a bummer....how can I get the old one without that white space?
c68.112.176.57.fdl.wi.charter.com (2003-10-07 19:22:47)
Confirmed! :(
SeaKai, could you send me your old one without the whitespace problem (upload to FileTest page. I can't track down what the difference is so an old copy would help - also note that all my Breeze skins currently have a broken page bar extender. It is an Opera bug, but my latest changes are triggering it.
NonTroppo (2003-10-07 20:12:03)
I take back the extender broken bit - rebooted an it is now working as expected.
NonTroppo (2003-10-07 20:15:02)
It's still showing the leading white space here.
c68.112.176.57.fdl.wi.charter.com (2003-10-07 20:37:29)
I was refering to another bug! But I've fixed the whitespace now - please check, I've also stripped a few more pixels left+right - could you check that favicons display correctly with MICRO
NonTroppo (2003-10-07 21:25:43)
Oh, sorry, NonTroppo....you're the best! Your Breeze skins and this Opera7Wiki? website are awesome!
c68.112.176.57.fdl.wi.charter.com (2003-10-07 22:10:01)
Favicons are displaying just fine after your refinements today for MICRO....thanks, again, NonTroppo!
c68.112.176.57.fdl.wi.charter.com (2003-10-07 22:13:00)
Micro currently behaves mostly as expected ! Maximum economical use of the pagebar WITH the unread icons (love those, BTW) or Favicons. When you click an unread tab, the unread icon dissapears and that seems to create the trailing whitespace since the tab is only resized when you click another tab. Can't be helped probably. Doesn't matter, I love MICRO all the same :) (I've upped my outdated tweaked Pmbw=40 copy to FileTest in case you still need it.)
Great job, NonTroppo !
SeaKai (2003-10-07 23:35:04)
Thanks!!! :)
NonTroppo (2003-10-08 00:18:09)
I installed your skin for Windows after finding your site, on this computer (my other one had Breeze for sometime in Opera). Beautiful. Thanks for your excellent work and taste. JCC

You may want to use ISO dates for the skin dates like you do for most other dates. It took me a little while to figure out that 07/10/2003 was in October, not July.
I'm still trying to decide if I like Breeze_Simplified or Breeze_Simplified_MICRO better.
h-68-167-255-191.STTNWAHO.dynamic.covad.net (2004-01-01 21:52:20)
Will the Breeze skins family get updated for Opera 7.5? Is there already a test version around?
YtseJam (2004-02-18 04:06:22)
Yes, they will. There are still large chages going on in V7.5, and I don't really want to waste time chasing a moving target. I have an internal beta of breeze_simplified if anyone is desperate for it, but not much has been done other than changing the panel selectors as the current "tab" design fails miserably with the new 7.5 panel selector. If you still want it, post back here and I'll make it available...
NonTroppo (2004-02-18 20:03:08)
ISO dates: how common are they outside of North America? The UK uses the 'other' date format which I am utterly used to - ISO dates confuse me greatly - but if I am a global minority, then I suspect I should adapt...
NonTroppo (2004-02-18 20:06:15)
Great job! Just found that I could apply BreezeII? to Windows after using it for Opera for over a year. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks!
user126.tealeaf.com (2004-04-03 00:23:55)
The MICRO Skin is absolut great. And when you made the changes in Windows its on his full power. This Skin looks great and has great functions. Now i will also install the css files in Opera and the I'm happy
Keep up the great work!

Anyone will update these skins for 7.50?
CrazyTerabyte (2004-05-09 15:46:56)
There is a BETA of Breeze Simplified that is (almost) fully 7.5 compatible. I'll add the link to this page. I won't release it 'officially until 7.5 goes gold.
NonTroppo (2004-05-10 13:15:50)
The current Breeze for 7.5 includes no icon for newsfeeds (i.e. in the mail panel, and on the tab bar)
BtEO (2004-05-14 07:24:10)
sorry found another missing icon :p
There is no image shown on the mail toolbar next to the label dropdown
In my toolbar setup it seems to be called "Set label" (to save you the time)
BtEO (2004-05-15 08:59:06)
I'm sure it's all helpful stuff
"Show newsfeeds" is missing too
BtEO (2004-05-15 09:01:28)
And another one.. the spell check image is missing...
BtEO (2004-05-15 13:48:19)
thanks they have been fixed! keep bug reports coming!
NonTroppo (2004-05-16 02:04:05)
You should be proud.. this skin has managed to relegate carthago (at least for a while :P )
BtEO (2004-05-16 19:49:55)
Hi non-troppo,
Using your skins as always.. :)
Some issues:
a) The screenshot of Breeze Simplified at the top of this page shows the panel tabs as neat grey or black lines. I'm using BS v3.2 and they show up here as 'buttons'. Micro *does* have those neat little lines.
b) Breeze Simplified: I'm using a personal bar for bookmarks. The first bookmark icon is resting against the border of the Opera windows, whereas I would like some (very little) space before the bookmarks start. Any way to do that?
c) Breeze Simplified MICRO: next to the "File" menu, there's no little round light thingie to resize etc. the current page. (It's there in BS 'normal').
Well, I just pay attention 'cause I like you skins so much!
Keep up the good work!
GeekK (2004-05-22 18:23:15)
Sorry, I saw your comment on the difficulty of changing the panel selectors in Opera 7.5 (but is does work in MICRO?).
GeekK (2004-05-22 18:29:37)
Another one... ;-)
Well not really, I just wondered if there could be more whitespace at the beginning of the tabs & in the personal bar. The first tab now rests at the edge of the screen. My previous version of BS didn't do that, I think (I lost it.. :-( )
GeekK (2004-05-22 18:32:14)
Thanks for the input!
Expect updates latr today or tomorrow.
NonTroppo (2004-05-23 09:50:15)
Thanks a lot for your replies, NonTroppo. :)
Please follow your own insights and vision in changing things, if you feel they're necessary. I'm not the only user using these skins. :-D
Thanks for for you maintenance and support!
GeekK (2004-05-24 01:11:22)
Breeze Simplified Micro 3.4 needs the new smileys, like Breeze Simplified has (notably :-p). Some of the toolbars (mail, IRC) have a horizontal overline on them.
SeaKai (2004-05-27 14:56:29)
Thanks for the update on BS (and micro), non-troppo!
GeekK (2004-05-27 16:26:15)
Nice new version (V3.4)!!
Two little comments, though: the little arrows on the bookmark-map icons are capped on the right.
Another thing: in the Preferences, the icon for Skins is too short, so the word 'Skins' isn't aligned with the rest of the preferences.
Thanks for your work! :-)
Greets, GeekK?

I highly recommend this patch for the skin.ini files to remove the red [x]'s on the page bar tabs in 7.6p2 :
[Pagebar Close Button Skin]
width =0
height =0
[Pagebar Close Button Skin.selected]
width =0
height =0
[Options]
Pagebar min button width = 0
SeaKai (2004-10-27 00:41:21)
Removing the red[x]'s is an option in the Opera-settings: Windows -> Advanced Opera Workspace.

When will be there Breeze Simplified Native micro for opera 8?
195.56.93.140 (2005-03-14 12:31:24)
The MICRO series are currently broken because of a bug in Opera with regards to forcibly resizing non-standard sized icons. I am waiting for this bug to either be fixed, or know what I can get a away with in a final. Note the current MICRO's do work in 8 except for that bug...
NonTroppo (2005-03-17 18:29:27)
Should the ECS link be updated? I'm not even certain that ECS is still published by the author. Wasn't there some issue where he took it down because others were using it in corporate environments and not giving him credit? I couldn't find a link to the program on the current site.
151.201.32.236 (2005-05-05 16:38:42)
My download includes ECS within the ZIP so you don't need to download it seperately. I wasn't aware of e-sushi's decision, but I don't know if he can revoke what was an open-source project fully?

I use the Breeze Simplified Native MICRO skin and think it is brilliant. I recently upgraded to V4.15 and noticed a one or two pixel border being drawn on the right hand side that wasn't there in the previous version. A screen shot with magnification is at
. It looks about 2 pixels wide to the right of the zoom drop down box and about 1 pixed to the right of the scroll bar. I'm using 8.01 on XP. Any thoughts appreciated. Is it possible to get the previous version of the skin?
LoungeHartley (2005-05-09 12:22:50)
I have fixed this for you, please try the latest version (V4.16) You can also get the older version from:
http://nontroppo.org/skins/Breeze_Simplified_Native_MICROOLD.zip
The current native micro is really more space efficient and compatible though.
As an aside, it is difficult to balance as skins dimensions change depending on whether windows classic or XP theme is used - very annoying for skin developers...
NonTroppo (2005-05-09 16:01:28)
Thanks very much for the super fast response - fantastic. I've normally gone for the native skins but giving the standard MICRO a go - great so far.
LoungeHartley (2005-05-09 19:04:32)
Breeze Simplified Native MICRO V4.16 (updated: 09/05/2005) is a bit broken. The edit fields have a left padding of 0 and that looks weird, the cursor is over the left margin of the edit, i think the left padding should be 1 instead of 0.

Hi NonTroppo!
Will there be updates to the Breeze Native skin ?
195.56.227.163 (2005-11-23 08:28:34)
Hello NonTroppo and thanks for a very nice skin! I have a problem with the native micro 4.16 in the mail panel the underlining of links when the cursor hovers over them does not get redrawn. A pic says more than 27 words so look at this
I suppose this is due to operas redrawing technique but I was curious if this happens to me only of if this is a general problem

Hi NonTroppo,
I've been using Breeze Simplified for quite long now and decided just today I couldn't stand the way the stop button looked any longer. So I designed another one. Here it is for you or anyone whom it pleases to use.
AliCroche (2006-06-01 09:24:27)
hey NonTroppo, I just got the lastest 9 beta build (weekly/8455) and the Breeze Simplified skin got one error...
I mean.. the "select" buttons are wrong... can you check that ?
thanks :)
btw,
I've been using since Opera 7. Congrats

Unortunately there are some bugs with Opera 9. When you lock the tab, and unlock it after a while, something wrong happens with close tab button. Another request is a default rss icon.
Anyway, thanks yor your job.

Hi there... about the ECS thing:
1) yes, one can stop developing using an open-source license. The good old ECS 2.0 version is available online (tugged deep in some sites like pc-world.com) and it also includes the source of version 2.0.
2) Meanwhile, there were several rewrites, and I even spilled out a litestep module (ls-ecs) for all those replacement shell geeks which also includes the sourcecode.
3) The windows branch has reached a totally different level, being renamed ecs-pro, it has reached version 6.0 and is only available for commercial licensing. Who knows, stubmling over this rather old thread, I am a bit motivated to push out a free (yet not open) version of it... one of these months... as soon as reallife™ let's me!

Any chance for an update on the Breeze Micro skin for Opera 10? Would be much appreciated! It's the best minimalist skin available.
67.183.152.129 (2009-09-10 21:04:19)
I'd also like an update. I love this skin, it makes it possible to use opera very effectively on a Samsung Q1UP-XP UMPC, or any other small screen PC similar to the Q1.

I'll have to look into editing skins. Maybe I'll do an update if I ever run out of things to do. I doubt that's going to happen any time soon though.

One more voice for a Breeze micro update for Opera 10. I'd rather use 9.64 with Breeze micro than 10 without it. Your skin's the best minimalistic skin for Opera I've found so far.
Cheers,
Peter

I love breeze simplified. I am insisting on using it on Opera 10.

+1 for version for Opera 10
85.207.210.103 (2010-02-01 01:21:18)
Yes please! Breeze Simplified Micro v4.21c was the best micro skin available (actualy also the only one) which was 100% space saving and did it's job. In Opera 10.50 it works only if you change to other skin, then back to Breeze. But after restart, GUI is black and you have to change it again and back.. Please! :)
62.209.202.190 (2010-02-11 01:44:14)
I made a couple of changes to BreezeII? for compatibility with 10.50:
In skin.ini:
[info] section:
version=3 (note that this needs to be either 2 or 3 as a mandatory item)
[options] section:
Fallback background=1
(which was the really important one, if you don't have that the drop down search box below the address bar is transparent and hence you can't read anything....).
I also included a proper icon for TinyURL? instead of it defaulting to the OpenLink? one - though there are other ways of doing this anyway via bookmarked buttons.
Having done this, Breeze is excellent with 10.50, far better than all the others I had a look at.
If anybody wants this please contact me via the Opera community - PM davews

Where is v4.21c ? It was best skin ever.
149.156.82.207 (2010-06-30 00:47:31)
Maybe it's just me, but under Opera Linux ver 10.00 Breeze has fat page tabs and toolbars. It's ugly and I can't fit all the vertical tabs I want. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've used Breeze for years, but I now have to choose between opera 10 and a breeze I can use. Help Please!!
120.28.64.69 (2010-07-26 06:41:55)
Hmm... Regarding Breeze II - I don't seem to have that "stronger contrast".
In the image you show the tabs in different colour (and also the text and it is not like this here... :\)
